For Cast Iron, Die Cast Aluminum Machining... High Pressure Chip Removal/Coolant Filtration Unit Cleans up at IMTS 2004

Compact chip removal conveyor and efficient coolant filtration system combined to provide 10-15 micron clean coolant in small chip/fines producing applications

Mayfran International, one of the world's leading producers of chip handling, discharge and coolant recycling systems, put on display at IMTS 2004 a wide range of its advanced at-the-machine chip and coolant filtration equipment for machining, turning and grinding, to enhance the productive performance of metalworking machines. Among these technologies was the ConSep® 1000, a unique and compact combination of chip removal conveyor/coolant filtration unit, all in one, small footprint. The model demonstrated at the show was also equipped with an optional Mayfran AT™ Cleaner to provide filtered coolant down to 15 micron levels and an optional drag/sludge conveyor for grinding applications.

The ConSep 1000 is specifically designed for the handling and removal of fingernail size or smaller chips and fines of any material that will not tangle or ball up— plus provide efficient 50 micron nominal coolant filtration in a single, compact unit. It is ideal for applications such as the machining of cast iron and die cast aluminum and can be used to replace existing systems, or as specified equipment for new machine tools.

The ConSep 1000 requires less than 50 sq. ft. of floor space and can be modified to suit application heights and lengths for virtually any type or configuration of machine tool.

The ConSep 1000 system consists of a single scraper conveyor for segregation of larger chips, then a sequential, permanent media filter drum that separates fines to 50 micron and features a self cleaning, pressurized backwash of the media. The pressurized wash system means less downtime for manual cleaning, and the process can be viewed through a clear access panel for visual inspection and verification of the cleaning action. The filtered coolant is held in a clean coolant holding tank for return to the machine tool. The removal of fines from the fluid results in a less abrasive, gritty coolant flowing back into the machining process, which helps reduce wear on machine components as well as on tools — maintenance is minimized while part tolerances are more easily held.

The ConSep 1000 can be equipped with optional chillers to optimize coolant temperature. Various high-pressure packages are also available with pressure and flow rates to meet application requirements. High-pressure systems include electrical controls and may be linked directly to the machine tool's CNC for program-imbedded operational instructions.

Also shown by Mayfran at IMTS were the new ConSep® CrosBelt™ Coolant Cleaning Separator, a FastPac™ Briquetter, a CT 20 ChipTote®, a magnetic roller conveyor, a VBU 300 Wringer and a single shaft MA Shredder...integral elements of a Mayfran Viavent® overhead, centralized multi-machine chip and coolant pumping system.
