Cellomics Announces Availability of New BioApplication Software Module as Well as a New Way to Access the Latest HCS Image Analysis SoftwarePITTSBURGH, PA, September 12, 2004 -- Cellomics, Inc., the creator of and market leader in high content screening (HCS), announced today at the Society for Biomolecular Screening conference, the release of a new image analysis software module called the Spot Detector BioApplication. This image analysis software module is designed to work with Cellomics' HCS instruments. In addition, Cellomics also announced the release of a new rental plan for accessing BioApplication modules called the CellSelect(TM)Rental Plan. This new plan provides additional flexibility for scientists developing high-content assays.
The Spot Detector BioApplication is a versatile image analysis algorithm that allows scientists performing drug discovery and basic science research to analyze a broad variety of cell-based assays very rapidly. This new BioApplication combines advanced object selection, sophisticated processing, and other features into a streamlined assay that allows researchers to scan and analyze a 96-well plate in as little as 5 minutes. This BioApplication is flexible AND fast, and can perform assays such as mitotic index, cell proliferation and viability, and receptor internalization. Spot Detector is ideally suited for detecting activation of GPCRs. "Using Spot Detector to analyze GPCRs on the ArrayScan VTI, we can screen over 20,000 wells a day," said Dr. Jeffrey R. Haskins, VP of Technology and Product Development at Cellomics. The Spot Detector BioApplication is available for ArrayScan(R) HCS Reader versions 3.1 and 4.0 as well as the new ArrayScan VTI HCS Reader.
The CellSelect Rental Plan allows Cellomics' customers to rent BioApplication software modules on an as-needed basis, at a significantly reduced first-year cost compared to purchasing the modules. This plan gives customers the budgetary flexibility and scientific tools they need for efficient utilization of HCS resources. "The rental plan will benefit our new customers by reducing the initial investment required for HCS, and current customers will also benefit from the ability to access our latest BioApplication software at a fixed monthly cost," stated Dr. Sarah Burroughs Tencza, Product Manager for BioApplications at Cellomics.
About Cellomics
Cellomics, Inc. is automating drug discovery through a unique, cell-based assay platform that addresses the needs of Drug Discovery and Systems Biology groups by offering complete systems for High Content Screening. The platform includes HCS instrumentation (both fixed end-point and kinetic systems), informatics, cellular image analysis software (BioApplications), fluorescent reagents, kits, cell lines, and multiparametric assays. When applied to early drug discovery, this platform is proving to reduce the 'idea-to-discovery' cycle time in drug discovery, while increasing the probability of the therapeutic success of leads as well as enhancing throughput in systems biology and basic research. Cellomics' proprietary platforms, including the ArrayScan and KineticScan(R) HCS Readers, along with BioApplication image analysis software and High Content Informatics (HCi(TM)) suite, are in use at multiple sites within all of the top fifteen pharmaceutical companies, as well as leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and academic centers globally.
