Orion Energy Systems Introduces New Industrial Lighting Offering 50 Percent More Light at Half the Energy Usage

U.S. Manufacturers Take Advantage of Guaranteed Cost Savings

PLYMOUTH, Wis., September 7, 2004 – Orion Energy Systems (www.oriones.com), an innovator in energy-efficient, environmentally friendly lighting, has introduced the latest model in its highly successful Illuminator Series™ of commercial lighting products.

Delivering 50 percent more light at half the energy usage, Orion’s newest Illuminator Series model, 4I4, is a four-lamp fixture designed for use in a wide range of commercial/industrial applications that have ceiling heights from 14 to 100 feet such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, distribution centers, big box retail stores, supermarkets and gymnasiums.

The company’s recent success in reducing costs for large American manufacturers including Toro, Fastenal, Cabela’s, Daimler Chrysler, Rockwell Automation, Caterpillar, UPS Logistics, John Deere, R.R. Donnelley and Kohl’s Department Stores, has led to a ‘throughput’ self-funding lease option that allows companies to retrofit their facilities with Orion products without any cash outlay and instead allows them to obtain the light they need and use a portion of the guaranteed energy savings to obtain the desired light output.

Orion’s Illuminator Series provides full-spectrum light while using half the energy of standard high-intensity fixtures, resulting in considerable operating cost and environmental efficiencies. Orion’s expandable technology platform can be employed in multi-million square foot buildings and multiple company facilities. The patented system is a complete system – not simply a better lamp. Utilizing today’s most advanced fluorescent lamps and electronic ballasts, the Illuminator Series harvests all 360 degrees of light using patented reflector logic and focuses it fully into the workspace.

Developed to date in facilities measuring over 105 million square feet, Orion’s customers have documented the fact that the Illuminator Series increases the quantity of light output by about 50 percent, and reduces electricity usage by about 50 percent by harvesting and focusing light more efficiently. The energy efficient lighting system has a sustainable life of 20 years along with the appropriate warranties.

In the last year alone, Orion has helped its business customers save more than 50 Megawatts or 300 million kilowatt hours (kWh), which amounts to approximately $16.5 million. Over the course of the Illuminator Series’ 20-year expected lifespan, Orion estimates current customers will enjoy a total energy savings amounting to 6 billion kWh or approximately $330 million.

“The business community has been slow to employ energy efficiencies because the traditional return on investment or the quality of the energy efficiency solution has been so poor,” comments Steve Heins, director of marketing, Orion Energy Systems. “Orion’s lighting solutions highlight the fact that energy efficient deliverables can be used as a competitive edge in U.S. manufacturing.”

The system’s standard features include: U.L. listed; a patented aluminum “I” frame; patented reflector design; durable lightweight construction; superior performance; extended warranty; and easy installation.

Orion’s goal is to utilize advanced technology to maximize energy efficiency management and cost-effectively reduce electricity needs. Its highly acclaimed Illuminator Series won the Wisconsin Governor’s Spirit of Ecology Award and the Clean Air Award.
