View Engineering Introduces Summit XP Series of Vision Measurement System

SIMI VALLEY, CA, September 2004 - View Engineering Inc., renowned for high precision vision measurement systems, announces the integration of linear motors into their View Summit series of large format, vision measurement/inspection systems. Linear motors are not subject to the same velocity and acceleration limitations inherent in systems converting rotary to linear motion (e.g. lead screw systems), improving throughput.

The integration of linear motors provides the View Summit platform with the higher velocities and accelerations needed to satisfy near-line measurement/inspection requirements. The View Summit XP systems operate precisely to 0.1 micron at velocities ranging from 400mm to 500mm per second. The combination of high precision and speed is critical in addressing the process monitoring and quality improvement needs of manufacturers who are challenged by current trends such as higher manufacturing volumes, decreased design geometries, and tighter tolerances.

The Summit XP design features include a fixed bridge design with a heavy-duty granite base and arch, passive vibration isolation system, and non-contact stage encoders offering 0.1 micron resolution. Available in a variety of sizes, Summit XP is ideally suited for measuring large footprint parts such as PCBs, stencils, flat panel displays, etching sheets and mask patterns, as well as nested groups of smaller parts.

As an example of improved throughput performance, a screen printer stencil with 15,000 apertures can now be measured by a View Summit XP system in less than 30 minutes, a 55% reduction in inspection cycle time over View lead-screw-based systems. Since View lead-screw-based systems already enjoy a 20% throughput advantage over the fastest competing vision measurement systems, the addition of linear motors represents a significant competitive advantage for View as well as added value for View's most demanding customers.

Summit XP systems will be featured at IMTS 2004 in the View Engineering booth # D4614.

View Engineering, Inc., a Quality Vision International company, is a pioneer and market leader in the design and manufacture of vision measurement systems used for process monitoring and quality assurance applications. Thousands of View vision systems have been installed throughout the world, serving a wide range of industries, including semiconductor assembly, PCB assembly, microelectronics, fiber optic communications, precision metalworking, precision plastics, and other high precision industries.
