(Chicago, IL - September 8 - 15, 2004) The newest, most versatile addition to the MultiDECO family, the MultiDECO 20/8b is cutting parts at IMTS 2004, booth A-8140. This model is configured for machining parts up to 20mm diameters. It has eight spindles and is being shown with the MSF 522/8 integrated bar feeder. This flexible machine can be configured as a traditional 8 spindle, or a two 4-spindle (2 x 4), or as a chucker machine. As a chucker, this model has a load/unload mechanism allowing sawn blanks, forgings, or castings to be used instead of bar stock.
As an 8-spindle machine, the 20/8b can produce highly complex parts featuring cross milling/drilling with 23 simultaneous axes, six cross slides and spindle and counter-spindle stops. The counter spindle has two axes capability, permitting complete machining of a part. To meet customer needs, the 20/8b features different spindle combinations, including single-speed, two-speed, and two-speed with stopping.
In the 2 x 4 configuration, the machine can produce two relatively simple, separate parts at the same time. Like all MultiDECOs, the 20/8b model combines the advantages of cam-controlled and CNC machines through the use of TB-DECO software and its PNC control.
Tornos' advanced engineering design of the 20/8b has resulted in a dynamic machine with 22 percent more main spindle power (30 hp) and 20 percent more axis motor power (5 hp) than the 26/6 model. It features an epoxy resin base and a unique spindle cooling system that provides more stability and less thermal distortion. Its curvic coupling for spindle locking provides improved indexing accuracy and up to 32 percent faster indexing time.
Other productivity enhancements of the MultiDECO 20/8b include presettable tools and the availability of quick change collets, providing faster setup time. An integrated hydrodynamic bar feeder equipped with a bundle loader increases machine uptime and decreases operator intervention. A universal chip conveyer equipped with filter and centralized control works with all types of swarf.
