Walker Turbo-Millâ„¢ MMC Milling Chucks Offer Powerful Magnetic Workholding for CNC Machining Centers and Conventional Milling Machines

Electro-Permanent Magnetic Milling Chucks Reduce Set-Up Time And Increase Available Machining Time

CHICAGO, Ill., Sept. 8,2004 - Walker Magnetics Group/O.S. Walker, a leading global manufacturer of magnetic technologies for industry, has introduced the Walker Turbo-Millâ„¢ MMC magnetic milling chuck as an alternative workholding solution to traditional clamping methods.

Walker Turbo-Millâ„¢ MMC magnetic milling chucks provide powerful workpiece clamping for a range of applications including surface grinding, profiling, face milling, edge milling, plunge milling, slotting, and drilling. These unique chucks eliminate the use of time-consuming, traditional clamping methods in CNC machining centers, including tombstone applications.

Powerful workholding and easy workpiece removal is achieved with the Turbo-Mill chuck at the touch of a button. Its superior magnetic workholding ability is ideal for a variety of vertical or horizontal machining applications. The chucks feature electronically activated permanent holding, and can be disconnected from their power supply making them portable and suitable for use in off-machine pallet loading applications.

The Turbo-Mill chucks allow single set-up machining with five-sided accessibility. They produce uniform holding over the entire workpiece surface and eliminate edge clamping distortion. Additionally, they help to dampen vibrations, resulting in longer tool life.

Turbo-Mill Magnetic Milling Chucks include drilled and tapped holes in the magnetic face to facilitate quick and easy positioning of riser blocks. Riser blocks allow the location of workpieces above the magnetic chuck so that through-machining operations are accomplished without damage to the chuck's magnetic surface.

Standard Turbo-Mill chucks are available in sizes from 13.62" x 11.88" x 3.14" to 40.07" x 19.76" x 3.14" and voltages 208V, 220V, 480V or 560V.

About the Company

Originally founded in 1896 by Oakley S. Walker as the O.S. Walker Company, the Walker Magnetics Group, Inc., was formed in 1974 to serve as the holding company for all corporate ventures. In the time since (and most actively in the last decade) through acquisitions and joint ventures, the company has expanded its markets and established operations around the globe, while remaining a privately-held, family-owned business.

The company's original emphasis was on magnetic workholding, primarily for the machine tool industry. For years, a staple product was the Walker Single-Stroke Surface Grinder, which incorporated an electromagnetic chuck and a patented Walker demagnetizing switch. Walker permanent chucks have earned the reputation as the industry standard.

New product development and the acquisition of complementary companies have served to strengthen Walker Magnetics' global capabilities to serve the needs, of customers with diverse applications in a wide range of industries.
