Flow-Switch Tester eliminates need to discharge water.

September 9, 2004 - To aid in compliance with NFPA® 25, Zonecheck® simplifies testing of wet fire sprinkler system flow switches. Key-switch operation allows multiple zone key switches to be operated from one master. Product recirculates water within pipe around flow switch to simulate flow of one fire sprinkler in operation, causing actuation of flow switch. Working pressure rating is 175 psi and operating temperature range is 40–120°F.

Tyco Fire & Building Products Takes the Trials Out of System Testing with New Zonecheck® Flow Switch Tester

Lansdale, Penn. - September 2, 2004 - Tyco Fire & Building Products, a business unit of Tyco Engineered Products & Services, recently announced the introduction of the Zonecheck flow switch tester to the fire protection market, providing a less-costly and more reliable means of fire sprinkler system alarm testing.

As mandated by the NFPA® 25, the National Fire Protection Association’s Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, wet fire sprinkler system flow switches must be tested on a quarterly basis. The standard method of testing involves the actual discharge of water from an inspector’s test on each system. These tests can be extremely time consuming, wasteful, and often cause the system’s fire pump to be activated. This can even potentially result in unnecessary fire department dispatches.

Tyco Fire & Building Products has addressed these testing issues with its introduction of the Zonecheck flow switch tester. The Zonecheck flow switch tester performs quarterly flow switch tests through a simple key switch operation that reduces testing time and allows for multiple zone key-switches to be operated from one master. Installed directly onto the pipe housing the flow switch, the Zonecheck simplifies testing by re-circulating the water within the pipe around the flow switch, simulating the flow of one fire sprinkler in operation, and causing the actuation of the flow switch. This built-in design eliminates the need for water to be expelled from the system or the need for the opening of inspector test valves, saving up to 400 gallons of water per switch annually.

”The Zonecheck® test method eliminates the time required to locate and access multiple inspector’s test valve connections that are generally remote from each other in a facility”, states Jim Brunetti, product manager, Tyco Fire & Building Products. “This product drastically reduces the time and effort needed to completely assure that the building fire protection systems and alarms are in working order.”

The Zonecheck tester features a working pressure rating of 175 psi, and an operating temperature range of 40 F to 120 F (2 C to 49 C). The Zonecheck tester is UL and C-UL Listed and FM Approved. For more information on the Zonecheck flow switch tester, as well as Tyco’s complete line of fire protection products, visit www.tyco-fire.com.
