New Lubrizol UltraZol™ Additive Allows Production of All Gasoline Grades

Low Dosage to Meet Minimum Requirements and Superior Detergency at Higher Treat Rates Make Technology Ideal for Standard, High-Performance and Any Grade In-Between

CLEVELAND, OH, August 23, 2004 – North American-based gasoline producers now can gain formulation flexibility, reduce inventory costs and streamline production efficiency with the use of UltraZol™ 8219, a new gasoline detergent additive from The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE: LZ). UltraZol 8219, which rounds out the existing family of UltraZol products, enables the production of all gasoline grades, from standard to high-performance to anything in-between.

At very efficient doses, UltraZol 8219 meets the EPA’s 1997 Final Rule Regulation that sets the requirements for its lowest additive concentration (LAC) for the minimum level of cleanliness for bulk fuel as specified in the Clean Air Act. UltraZol 8219 also meets the more stringent requirements of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and can be used at higher treat rates to provide deposit clean up and additional marketing claims. UltraZol 8219 is field proven with over 50 billion miles of use, and its detergency performance keeps clean engines clean, while it makes dirty engines cleaner.

In addition, this proprietary detergent additive technology is formulated to be pumpable at temperatures down to -30° F (-35° C).

Web-based Vendor Managed Inventory to Make Customer Ordering Easier

Not only can UltraZol 8219 simplify customers’ supply chains by limiting their gasoline additive purchasing needs to one choice, but ordering the product will be easier than ever before beginning September 13, 2004. That’s when Lubrizol launches an enhanced, Web-based Vendor Managed Inventory tool within its myLubrizol.com e-commerce extranet.

Lubrizol’s online Vendor Managed Inventory will allow customers to log on, enter a special section of the site, access an inventory worksheet and partner with Lubrizol to manage their product shipments. Based on volumes, Lubrizol’s tool will determine how much product customers need and when deliveries should occur.

The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE: LZ) is a global provider of specialty chemicals and materials for a wide variety of markets and end-use applications, such as lubricant additives for engine oils, other transportation-related fluids and industrial lubricants, as well as fuel additives for gasoline and diesel fuel. Lubrizol’s industry-leading positions in additives, ingredients and compounds enhance the quality, performance and value of customers’ products, while reducing their environmental impact.
