Wilmington Machinery’s New Lumina 1600 Provides an Affordable Multi-Nozzle Gas-Assist Injection Molding Machine

Wilmington, NORTH CAROLINA --- Wilmington Machinery, designers and builders of cost effective, highly specialized, quality processing machinery, has introduced the LUMINA 1600 designed for multi-nozzle gas-assist injection molding structural parts. The LUMINA 1600 is unique in that it allows for flexible production of large single or multiple parts.

The LUMINA 1600 has low pressure injection sequential injection capability. Along with external hot manifolds supplant built-in mold manifolds. The shot capacity is 11.4 kg (single or dual accumulators). The extruder is 90mm and 362 kg/hr. 335 metric tons is the clamp force. The Platen is (V&H) 1370 mm x 1778mm with 64 nozzle locations.

Russ La Belle, president of Wilmington Machinery, assesses the overall benefits of the LUMINA 1600 in this way:

“Today’s processors are struggling to find niches in which they can survive, compete, and profit. Faced with challenges such as low foreign labor rates and escalating raw material costs, many molders, both custom and proprietary, are exploring the merits of product redesigns, parts consolidations, and alternative production methods. Those with the capacity to mold very large parts --- traditionally requiring clamp tonnages ranging from 1000 tons and above --- have discovered certain advantages in that there is significantly less international competition. With the introduction of the LUMINA 1600, processors now have a very cost-effective performance option to standard injection molding machinery designed to produce large plastic components. The LUMINA 1600 is a low pressure machine built specifically to compete with large tonnage conventional injection equipment, thereby enabling molders to reduce costs while maintaining a peak level of performance.”

For a quarter of a century, Wilmington Machinery has been designing and building high quality specialty and standardized Rotary Blow Molding Machines, Structural Injection Foam Machines and Industrial Blow Molding Machines.
