Pre-Sintered Preforms feature low porosity.

August 4, 2004 - Suited for high-temperature brazing applications, Pre-Sintered Preforms feature less than 2% porosity, which helps eliminate shrinkage. Curved, tapered, and cylindrical shapes are available with thicknesses from 0.010-0.200 in. Curved PSPs eliminate second braze cycle on convex and concave surfaces, while cylindrical PSPs will not sag or overflow during brazing. Intended for dimensional restorations and crack repairs, preforms are suitable for aerospace engine components.

Morgan Advanced Ceramics Offers Wesgo Pre-Sintered Preforms (PSP) For Aerospace Engine Repair

Low porosity eliminates braze repair shrinkage

Morgan Advanced Ceramics (MAC), a world-leading supplier of innovative ceramic material solutions for the medical, telecommunications, semiconductor and aerospace markets, offers pre-sintered preforms (PSP) for high-temperature brazing applications. These multi-component systems are designed for both dimensional restorations and crack repairs, making them ideal for use in aerospace engine components. Unlike traditional brazing pastes and green tapes porosity in PSPs is less than 2-percent, which helps to eliminate shrinkage. PSP's are easy to handle and environmentally safe, providing a cost-effective braze repair solution.

Brazed parts require minimal grinding to restore components to original dimensions. To further decrease milling on graded geometries, MAC's PSPs can be manufactured in tapered preforms. Additionally, brazing allows whole components to be heated in a vacuum furnace, reducing distortions and providing increased consistency, resulting in a high-quality repair process.

For customized applications, MAC offers PSPs in various shapes, including curved, tapered and cylindrical with thickness ranging from 0.010" (0.3mm) to 0.200" (5mm) Unlike flat preforms, for reduced processing time, curved PSPs eliminate the need for a second braze cycle on both convex and concave surfaces. For dimensionally restoring holes and bores, cylindrical preforms are ideal because they will not sag or over flow during brazing.
