New G7 Drive From Yaskawa For Extreme Performance Industrial Solutions

NEW BERLIN, Wis., April 27, 2004 -- Yaskawa’s new G7 adjustable frequency drive is the extreme performance solution, delivering servo-like performance from an induction motor while also solving 480 volt installation and reliability problems.

This unique new AC drive offers the ultimate in performance and flexibility to handle the most challenging applications in speed or torque control

Several control modes are designed in as standard. In open loop vector mode, the latest flux observer algorithms extend speed range and provide maximum starting torque. Open loop torque control is also realized. In closed loop vector mode, 0.01% speed regulation and 1000:1 control range can be achieved. Zero-servo capability provides servo-like position control at zero speed.

Rapid Growth In Industrial Applications

Development of faster switching devices and packaging has greatly increased the number of potential applications for AC drives in industrial applications.

In the past, such applications at 480 volts have added extra installation costs for filtering and suppression peripherals. Yaskawa’s G7, however, incorporates exclusive inverter architecture capable of minimizing or eliminating problems associated with IGBT switching -- protecting the entire motor-drive system.

World’s First Commercial Three-Level Architecture

The G7 at 480 volts incorporates the world’s first 3-level inverter architecture for total system protection. This patented drive architecture virtually eliminates expensive “workaround” components formerly required to solve industrial installation problems.

Additionally, the G7 features three auto-tuning methods to optimize motor control, including new static auto-tuning, which requires neither load decoupling nor motor rotation.

The LCD operator displays 5 lines of 16 characters, in any of seven languages. The keypad is intuitive and includes memory for parameter settings, easing transfer of settings from one drive to another.

A large programming “feature set’ is available to handle sophisticated industrial applications. The drive firmware can also be modified using custom or pre-written application-specific modules such as “Motion Control” or “Electronic Lineshaft.”

The G7 offers network communications options including Ethernet, TCP/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus-DP, Modbus Plus and others.

The new G7 is available in 240 and 480 volt ratings, from 1/2 to 500hp, with heavy duty overload ratings of 150% for one minute, 200% for 0.5 seconds.
