Spirol International Announces New 316 Stainless Steel Coiled Spring Pins

DANIELSON, CT - Spirol International is announcing an addition to its material offering for Coiled Spring Pins. The 316 Stainless Steel Coiled Pin is ideal for highly corrosive environments including marine and petrochemical applications.

316 Stainless Steel has many advantages over 302/304 stainless including:

o Higher nickel content and molybdenum alloy increases corrosion resistance
o Increased resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
o Higher strength
o Maintenance of mechanical integrity at higher temperatures
o Excellent performance at sub-zero temperatures

As with any SpirolŪ Coiled Pin, these special components can be easily installed using a hammer, simple arbor press or any other standard pin insertion equipment.

Manufacturing Quality Products Since 1945

COILED SPRING PINS
Easily recognized by its unique 21/4 coil cross-section, it is the only spring pin with uniform strength and flexibility after insertion. The direction of the applied load is immaterial. Driven into the hole, it becomes a built-in shock absorber. Available in three duties to provide a variety of combinations of
strength, flexibility and diameter to suit different holes and materials.

WHY 316 STAINLESS?
Type 316 stainless steel is similar to 302/304 stainless steel with a slightly higher nickel content and the addition of molybdenum. This alloy is also austenitic, non-magnetic and non-hardenable using conventional methods. 316 stainless steel has better mechanical properties at elevated temperatures than 302/304 and offers excellent mechanical integrity at subzero temperatures.

The molybdenum content increases the chemical resistance of this alloy greatly. 316 exhibits superior pitting resistance against sea water, acetic acid vapors, chlorides, sodium and calcium brines, hypochlorite solutions, phosphoric acid, and the sulfite liquors and sulfurous acids used in the paper and pulp industry.

SpirolŪ 316 Stainless Steel Coiled Pins are available in all
standard coiled pin sizes as referenced in our catalog.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
o Assemblies submerged or exposed to salt water and other corrosive liquids
o Processing equipment in chemical, food, pharmaceutical and petroleum industries
o Industries producing photographic chemicals, paper, textiles, bleaches, inks, rayons and rubber.
o Architectural applications in highly corrosive environments
o Medical Industry Applications
