Oxygen Analyzer suits high-temperature furnaces to 1,400°C.

July 6, 2004 - Intrinsically-safe, In-Situ Analyzer, Model 5081FG utilizes zirconium oxide sensor cell to measure oxygen in process temperatures from 550-1400°C with accuracy of ±1.5% of reading. Since unit is mounted close to furnace or radiant section, it uses HART® protocol to deliver measurements, device status, and diagnostic data remotely to technicians. Applications include process heaters, reactor furnaces, hazardous waste incinerators, and boiler radiant zones.

Emerson Process Management Introduces Model 5081FG In Situ Oxygen Analyzer Designed for High-temperature Furnaces to 1400° C (2550° F)

Analyzer features HART® protocol for remote diagnosis, calibration in high-temperature environments

ORRVILLE, OHIO (June 23, 2004) - Operators of furnaces, incinerators and process heaters can now take advantage of an analyzer that can operate at elevated temperatures much closer to the burner than has ever been possible before. Emerson Process Management's new Rosemount Analytical Model 5081FG in situ oxygen analyzer also features an intrinsically safe design, as well as HART® protocol, which delivers reliable measurements, device status and diagnostic data remotely to technicians servicing and calibrating systems.

Remote diagnosis is essential with the Model 5081FG analyzer as it is designed for mounting close to the furnace or radiant section of the process flue gas system. Closer proximity to the combustion process provides a more representative oxygen measurement compared to traditional in situ analyzers that are typically mounted further from the process due to limited temperature tolerances. This enhanced measurement - providing accuracy readings ±1.5 percent of reading - often results in significant fuel savings or improved process throughput.

The Model 5081FG analyzer utilizes a zirconium oxide sensor cell constructed of ceramic materials to accurately measure excess oxygen in process temperatures ranging from 550° to 1400° C (1022° to 2550° F). In fact, the analyzer's intrinsically safe design uses the higher process temperatures to heat the sensor cell to the appropriate operating temperature without the use of a cell heater commonly found in traditional in situ analyzers.

Those traditional cell heaters are powered via the analyzer's electronics and could potentially serve as an ignition source to any hazardous gases inside the process system or in the ambient gases in the area where the analyzer's electronics are installed. As a result, users of systems requiring cell heaters must sometimes purchase analyzers with costly protection features such as flame arrestors, field-mounted electrical barriers or special enclosures.

The HART protocol featured in the Model 5081FG analyzer allows for communication with the system via an easy-to-use handheld Infrared Remote Control (IRC). Only one IRC is required to communicate with any number of Model 5081FG analyzers at the user's location as individual factory or user identification numbers are associated with each analyzer. The HART protocol provides a link into Emerson Process Management's PlantWeb® field-based architecture for superior control performance, optimization of plant assets, increased plant availability and reduced maintenance costs.

Applications for the 5081FG in situ oxygen analyzer include:
o Process heaters - hazardous areas
o Reactor furnaces - hazardous areas
o Boiler radiant zones (measures before air leaks, tuning individual burners and NOx reduction)
o Sulfur recovery furnaces
o Hazardous waste incinerators
o Steel reheat furnaces
