MetroLaser Announces the VibroMet 500
Easy to Use Vibrometer for High Precision Non-Contact Vibration Measurement
IRVINE, Calif., June 2, 2004 -- MetroLaser, Inc., a developer of laser-based measurement technologies, today announces the availability of the VibroMet 500, a single-beam laser Doppler vibrometer that offers high sensitivity vibration measurement over a wide dynamic measurement range for non-contact vibration measurement of any surface. The VibroMet 500 is optimized for measurement distances from one centimeter to five meters, so unlike vibrometers designed to work at a fixed distance, there is no need to adjust a focusing lens. This feature makes the VibroMet 500 easy to use and ensures quick and extremely accurate vibration measurement. In addition, the VibroMet 500 uses a patented optical design, making it sturdy and ensuring that it stays aligned in harsh environments.
APPLICATIONS
The VibroMet 500 targets control, research, and design applications that require measuring vibration without touching the object being measured. Non-contact vibration measurement avoids modifying the surface that one measures, therefore resulting in more accurate measurement. It also allows many different points on the object to be quickly evaluated and is essential when the object is extremely hot or out of reach. The VibroMet 500 was created under a SBIR contract with NASA Dryden and has since been used by the U.S. government and by universities for a variety of applications including aviation safety, bridge column inspection after earthquakes, landmine detection, and to study the response of bones in the inner ear to acoustic excitation. The VibroMet 500 can also be used in the automotive, computer, athletic equipment manufacturing, and many other industries.
"MetroLaser has received outstanding feedback from the military, university professors and students alike, which has allowed us to recognize just how useful the VibroMet 500 can be for quality assurance and product optimization purposes," says Cecil Hess, President of MetroLaser. "With the encouragement of NASA Dryden, we have decided to make this product available to the public."
MetroLaser will debut the VibroMet 500 at the SEM X International Congress and Exposition on Experimental and Applied Mechanics in Costa Mesa, California, on June 7-9, 2004.
