May 4, 2004 - Model FGL60N100BNTD is a 1,000 V/60 A Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor that combines trench technology and non-punch through technology. It offers switching speeds of 130 ns and low saturation voltage of 2.5 V at 60 A. Avalanche immunity protects unit from field failure caused by break down avalanche during off-state. Available in TO-264 package, lead-free transistor meets or exceeds requirements of joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B.

Fairchild Semiconductor's New 1000V NPT-Trench IGBT Offers Best-In-Class Avalanche Ruggedness for Induction Heating Applications
South Portland, Maine - April 29, 2004 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) introduces a new 1000V/60A IGBT that delivers superior switching and conduction characteristics as well as avalanche ruggedness in induction heating (IH) applications, including IH rice jars, induction cookers and microwave ovens. Combining Fairchild's proprietary trench technology and non-punch through (NPT) technology, the new FGL60N100BNTD achieves exceptional avalanche immunity in its class. The device's avalanche immunity protects the IGBT from field failure caused by break down avalanche during off-state and, therefore, increases reliability in IH applications. The FGL60N100BNTD features switching speeds optimized for IH applications (tf = 130ns, typ.) and low saturation voltage to limit conduction losses (VCE(SAT) = 2.5V @ IC = 60A). A built-in fast recovery diode on the FGL60N100BNTD simplifies circuit design and reduces component count.
"The rugged and reliable FGL60N100BNTD is the only product with avalanche immunity in the 900-1000V IGBT market specifically targeting IH appliances," said Taehoon Kim, vice-president of Fairchild's High Power Product Group.
The FGL60N100BNTD is packaged in a TO-264. This lead-free (Pb-free) product meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and is compliant with the European Union requirements, which will take effect in 2005.
The introduction of this 1000V NPT-Trench IGBT enhances Fairchild's offering for induction heating applications. In addition to IGBTs, these products include rectifiers, triacs, optocouplers, and LEDs.
