Nilfisk-Advance America Introduces Explosion Proof Vacuum, Approved for Use in Hazardous Areas Class I, Group D, and Class II, Groups F and G

New CFM A17 Explosion Proof Vacuum helps ensure plant safety in pharmaceutical, food manufacturing, petrochemical, and other industrial plants

MALVERN, Pa., April 7, 2004 - Nilfisk-Advance America, a leading manufacturer of industrial vacuum cleaners, announces the availability of its new CFM A17 Explosion Proof (EXP) vacuum. The CFM A17 EXP vacuum meets UL Standard 1017, and is designed to safely collect and retain potentially explosive materials – including powders, gasses, vapors, liquids, and dust – in Hazardous Areas Class I, Group D, and Class II, Groups F and G.

Constructed entirely of stainless steel and aluminum to eliminate percussion arcs, the CFM A17 EXP vacuum collects materials without sparking, reducing the threat of explosion and fire. To further protect workers, it is powered by compressed air and has built-in anti-static features including: a static grounding wire that ensures a high level of conductivity for static dissipation; anti-static wheels mounted on rigid and swiveling castors for easy maneuverability; and an anti-static filter with 21 square feet of surface area that guarantees high filtration efficiency and prevents premature clogging. In addition, all components of the vacuum are conductive, including its housing, wheels, hose, and airline; and all non-metallic components are carbon-impregnated for conductivity.

"Because it virtually eliminates the threat of explosion, the CFM A17 Explosion Proof Vacuum is ideal for use in just about any plant environment where hazardous materials need to be removed," said Mike D'Agostino, product manager for Nilfisk-Advance America. "And because it meets UL Standard 1017, plant managers can be confident that their employees are protected."

The CFM A17 EXP also enables plant managers to increase productivity. The intermittent-duty vacuum operates virtually maintenance-free due to its lack of moving parts and highly efficient filtration system. The vacuum's multi-stage filtration system features an external manual filter shaker handle to easily purge the main filter before clogging occurs. An optional HEPA* filter retains up to 99.999% of dust – down to and including 0.3 microns in size – within the vacuum.
