Audiovox Takes a Large Step Forward with Its New Rear Observation Systems

Las Vegas NV – January 2004 – Audiovox introduced three rear observation systems with LCD screens built into the rear-view mirrors. These screens display clear, color images, while retaining the mirror portion for standard viewing operation. “Audiovox knows video screens inside and out, because of our experience in mobile video, navigation and mobile theater. It is a logical segue for us to move into the rear observation market,” said Tom Malone, Senior VP Sales, Audiovox Electronics Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation (NASDAQ: VOXX).

Rear observation gives the driver peace of mind. “We’ve all been there...backing out of tight places with limited visibility, and with vehicles getting higher and longer, the issue becomes even more critical. It is every driver’s nightmare. It can happen in the driveway, the mall, and any public parking lot. It only takes a split second, and the results can be devastating.” Malone is talking about the thousands of back-up accidents that occur annually and the obvious need for better back-up systems.

Malone notes that Audiovox Rear Observations Systems meet that need. They include a rear-view mirror with an embedded screen that simply straps onto the vehicle’s mirror. Installation is quick. Color cameras mount in the rear bumper. Like all of Audiovox’s mobile products, these systems have been extensively road-tested and are designed to withstand high vibration, extreme temperatures and rugged road conditions.

Rear Observation Mirrors – Three products designed to show the driver what he might not be seeing, in a clear, color image. They do not interfere with the normal function of a rear-view mirror.

• RVMPKG1 – Features 4-inch color LCD screen, hands-free cellular phone input, two built-in speakers, rear-view camera input and aux video input with Safeguard. MSRP: $429.00. Note: Safeguard is designed to prevent the driver from accessing any video (but the back-up system) unless the vehicle is in “Park” and the emergency brake is on.

• RVMPKG2 – Features 4-inch color LCD screen, hands-free cellular phone input, two built-in speakers, navigation input*, rear-view camera input and aux video input with Safeguard. MSRP: $449.00.

Note: With this model, the driver can add a navigation system to the mirror with a direct plug-in, using any Audiovox Navigation System. * Navigation unit and camera must be purchased separately.

• RVMPKG3 – Features 4-inch color LCD screen, two built-in speakers, rear-view camera input, aux video input with Safeguard. Available in 4-color retail clamshell package. Camera included. MSRP: $499.00.

Rear Observation Cameras – Three models that deliver a clear, sharp and distinctive image.

• VCCS130 – Color CCD camera with microphone, exterior mount and selectable image capability. MSRP: $235.00.

• CCDF – Mini-color CCD camera featuring 120-degree viewing angle, flush or surface mount. Waterproof. MSRP: $179.00.

• ROSEC – CCD color camera for use with RVMPKG 1 and 2. Includes microphone and extended mount. Waterproof. MSRP: $199.00.
