Seiko Instruments Introduces Compact Thermal Printer with RF Option For a Wide Range of Portable Applications

TORRANCE, Calif. - Oct. 22, 2001 - Seiko Instruments USA Inc., Micro Printer Division announces the introduction of its DPU-H245 compact, portable thermal printer. Featuring an optional RF transceiver capability for wireless printing in virtually any situation, the DPU-H245 is ideally suited for field testing, warehousing, medical diagnostics, auto ID, and point-of-sale applications, which require superior print quality in a small package.

The new DPU-H245 thermal printer measures just 135 mm x 100 mm x 36 mm (W x D x H) and is equipped with a rechargeable NiMH battery, allowing for printing of 8,000 character lines on a single charge. Supporting popular condensed and enhanced fonts, the new printer offers a print resolution of 384 dots/line at a print speed of up to 50 mm/second in a 2-inch paper width. Plus, a choice of 14-pin parallel or 9-pin serial data input is available.

With its optional RF wireless communications capability via an RS-232C port, the DPU- H245 offers remote printing at a distance of 500-1500 feet indoors, as well as two miles (line of sight) with an omni-directional antenna or 12 miles (line of sight) with a directional antenna.

Transmission operates on the 2.4 GHz band with a full-duplex data rate of 9.6 kbps. "The new DPU-H245 is an ideal solution for any environment where a compact size, durable construction, quick printing and communications flexibility fit the bill," said Bob Falco, director of sales and marketing for Seiko Instruments Micro Printer Division. "It's an excellent addition to our innovative line of portable thermal printers." About Seiko Instruments USA Inc.
