Carbon Control System suits non-conventional furnaces.

March 18, 2004 - Sentinel-FCP pairs extractive lambda probe with Dual Pro dual-loop process controller. Lambda probe, capable of oxygen sensing from ppm up to 15% oxygen, draws sample from furnace and provides oxygen measure to controller, which calculates furnace atmosphere carbon levels and dewpoint. Unit then automatically adjusts trim gas and furnace temperature. Sentinel-FCP can be located remotely and is not susceptible to vibration and thermal shock.

Extractive Carbon Control for Rotary and Shaker Furnaces

Cincinnati, OH (March 4, 2003) - Accurate carbon measurement and control in non-conventional furnaces, such as rotary and shaker furnaces, is often impractical with traditional in-situ probes. To improve this process, Marathon Sensors introduces the new Sentinel-FCP, an extractive carbon control package which delivers reliable carbon measurement for optimal control of heat treating processes.

The Sentinel-FCP pairs an extractive lambda probe with the company's Dual Pro dual-loop process controller to optimize combustion. The lambda probe, capable of oxygen sensing from parts-per-million of up to 15% oxygen, draws a sample from the furnace and provides an oxygen measure to the controller. The Dual Pro uses this input and the furnace temperature to calculate the furnace atmosphere carbon levels and dewpoint. The unit can then automatically adjust the trim gas and furnace temperature. The unit's sample response time is ten times faster than conventional probes for real-time, reliable readings.

Because the Sentinel-FCP can be located remotely, installation of the system does not entail costly furnace modifications. Unlike in-situ probes, the Sentinel-FCP's probe is not susceptible to damage caused by vibration and thermal shock, extending probe life and lowering maintenance costs. An integrated testing protocol with ringback alarm and datalogging capabilities monitor the unit and process performance. The Sentinel-FCP is factory tested and backed by a comprehensive 18-month warranty.

Marathon Sensors, an ISO 9001:2000 registered firm, is a leader in the development of atmosphere sensors and instrumentation for the heat treating, power generation, glass and ceramic, chemical and petrochemical, steel reheat, and incineration industries. A member of the worldwide Halma Group, the company is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and has representatives and distributors around the world.
