Grace Construction Products Helps Contractors Build Better Deck Systems

Grace Vycor® Deck Protector™ Seals Out Water from Decks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (March 4, 2004)– Contractors often face a challenging task in building quality deck systems that stand up to the harsh weather elements. Grace Construction Products, a world leader in the building products industry, offers its Grace Vycor® Deck Protector™ self-adhered flashing membrane as a smart solution to extend the effective life of decks.

Water tends to accumulate and remain on the surface of deck joists and other structural elements for extended periods of time with fastener holes and cracks providing direct access for water penetration. This water can cause even treated structures to rot prematurely, shortening the useful life of the entire deck. When long lasting composite decking is used, the full useful life of the deck may not be realized because of water damage to the support structure. Grace Vycor Deck Protector seals around the tops of deck joists to create an impervious barrier against water and moisture, reducing the likelihood of rot and extending the effective life of the deck.

"The Grace Vycor Deck Protector provides an easy, reliable and cost effective solution to deck preservation," said Lawrence S. Shapiro, Grace's worldwide director of marketing. "Builders continue to rely on Grace for industry-leading technologies that provide moisture management solutions for the entire home."

The Grace Vycor Deck Protector may be used under all decking materials, and its self-adhering membrane enables fast, easy installation. The product is comprised of a skid-resistant coating and includes measurement markings on the membrane surface to simplify application.

In addition, Grace Vycor Deck Protector helps protect galvanized fasteners and joist hangers from corrosion due to the more aggressive nature of the new wood preservative chemical, ACQ.
