High Torque Brushless Servomotor Series

Patented ThinGap Technology Delivers 574 oz-in Peak Torque for Quick Acceleration and Deceleration of Heavy Loads in Factory Automation Applications

VENTURA, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 2, 2004 - ThinGap Motor Technologies, the leader in high power density brushless and brush DC motors, today has announced the new TG2300 Series NEMA 23 Frame Brushless DC (BLDC) Servomotor with peak torque of 574 oz-in for quick acceleration and deceleration of heavy loads at up to 7,200 RPM. ThinGap's patented high-efficiency electromotive coil technology delivers exceptionally high peak torque, eliminating the need for gearbox reduction in many applications. This reduces backlash, cost, heat buildup, noise and space requirements.

"Developed for factory automation applications where precise motion control is important, the TG2300 Series BLDC Servomotor delivers higher accuracy and faster accel/decel times even with heavy loads. It also eliminates the need for gear reduction, lowering system costs while improving accuracy," said Rick Noling, CEO, ThinGap Motor Technologies. "This is another example of increasing power density with ThinGap electromotive coil technology and extending it to new applications and markets, such as factory automation customers."

The ThinGap electromotive coil technology uses multiple precision-machined copper sheets to replace the magnet wire and iron core of conventional motors. This innovative, patented design eliminates magnetic saturation, eddy currents, and hysteresis associated with the conventional iron core designs, improving controllability and power density. I2R losses are minimized by the ultra low resistance coil, which also contributes to high efficiency. The precision wall of the stator coil allows for a narrow air gap between the rotor and stator assembly enabling higher magnetic flux density for improved utilization of the magnetic circuit enhancing shaft power.

The TG2300-120-81920E delivers peak torque of 574 oz-in with peak current of 70 amps and continuous power density of 7.5 watts/oz. Input voltage range is up to 48 VDC enabling unprecedented servo performance at below CE and UL regulated safety voltage levels allowing OEM's to cut the cost of machine manufacturing. Rotor inductance measures 10 microhenries and terminal resistance is 0.31 milliohms. Real time error is less than five counts per 81,920 counts per revolution (0.006%). The TG2300 series is thermally rated for operation at up to 100°C. A PDF data sheet can be downloaded at: www.ThinGap.com/TG2300.htm.
