MTS Introduces New Temposonics® Position Sensor Line

CARY, N.C. (February 23, 2004) — MTS Sensors today announced the introduction of the Temposonics G-Series linear position sensor product line. Utilizing advanced electronics and a new microprocessor-based design, the MTS Temposonics Engineering Team has responded to customer requests for additional functionality at a lower total cost, with innovations that include fully programmable sensor set-up and complete diagnostic capabilities for efficient installation and troubleshooting in the field. In addition, the G-Series offers improved magnetostrictive sensing performance and is fully compatible with existing installations of L-Series and Temposonics II Series sensors.

“As the inventor of magnetostrictive technology, MTS Sensors has always led the way in innovation,” said Temposonics Marketing Manager, David Edeal. “The G-Series answers our customers call for enhanced functionality, while maintaining our standard features — all at lower cost-of-ownership.”

The advanced G-Series electronics provides better linearity, EMI immunity, and signal to noise performance in harsh electrical environments. Enhanced packaging also offers improved shock and vibration resistance to ensure that the G-Series is rugged and reliable even in the most demanding motion control applications.

The Temposonics Engineering Team responded to market needs by designing the G-Series with advanced diagnostics capabilities, and more importantly, accomplished this in a manner that is practical for the engineer or technician in the field to use. Red and green LED indicators located directly on the sensor may be monitored for errors such as missing magnets, weak signals, insufficient or out of range input power, and other maintenance issues that consume both time and money for customers. These diagnostic features provide plant engineers with enhanced methods for troubleshooting and commissioning in the field without having to remove the sensor, thereby lowering the total cost for the sensors.

In addition, the G-Series offers multiple methods for external programmability to reduce installation time and cost. In-line pushbutton or PC software programming may be accomplished using a serial communications link.

Customers currently using L-Series or Temposonics II sensors in the field will find that the G-Series will provide “drop-in” replacement for existing installations with little or no changes required. The MTS Applications Engineering team is available to answer technical questions about the new G-Series – call (800) 633-7609.
