Rapid Prototype and Production Cell Offers Simrit Xpress™ Seals in as Little as One Day
PLYMOUTH, Mich., February 11, 2004 – To provide its industrial seal customers with made-to-order products in as little as 24 hours, Simrit – a division of Freudenberg-NOK – recently introduced Simrit Xpress™ seals. Designed as a cost-effective solution for low quantity production or rapid prototypes, Simrit Xpress uses a computer numeric control (CNC) milling machine, integrated with computer software, to custom produce seals – usually in less than one day.
“The technology behind Simrit Xpress seals is one of the most comprehensive systems available to our customers today,” said Scott Sulhan, new business development manager for Simrit. “With Simrit Xpress, we can guarantee our customers a cost-effective seal solution, that is custom made-to-order and backed with Simrit’s world-class engineering and know-how.”
The Simrit Xpress technology allows customers to design products online, choose from nearly 100 standard designs, including hydraulic seals, pneumatic seals and O-rings made from the highest quality materials in the world. With a few clicks of the mouse at www.simrit.com, customers can receive an instant price quote and can often have their product shipped within 24 hours, since Simrit stocks more than $250,000 in raw material that is ready for immediate processing.
In the online pricing module, customers can change materials, view design limits based on material selections and input dimensions (inch and metric units). Once an order is created, it can be saved for additional review or purchase at a later date or processed immediately. One advantage is that the system will not accept an order or quote for a design that cannot be made, such as a cross-section that is too small.
Customers also receive other benefits with Simrit Xpress seals: there are no mold charges because the seals are machined on a CNC lathe; variations can be easily accommodated; molding issues such as knit lines, ejector pin markings and flash are eliminated; and the product can be held to extremely high tolerances.
A market leader in seals for the aerospace, appliance, mobile machinery, outdoor power and recreation market segments, Simrit draws from more than 150 years of experience and well-known brand names including Freudenberg, NOK, Disogrin, Merkel and International Seal. The Simrit Division is based at Freudenberg-NOK’s headquarters in Plymouth, Mich. Freudenberg-NOK is part of the Freudenberg and NOK Group Companies, which have total annual sales of more than $7 billion.
