ExxonMobil Reformulates Mobil SHC® 800 Series Oils For Industrial Gas Turbines

-- New Formulation Improves Turbine Cleanliness, Helps Extend Drain/Service Intervals and Provides Enhanced Protection for Stationary Gas Turbines --

FAIRFAX, VA, January 27, 2004 — ExxonMobil today announced the introduction of an enhanced formulation of its popular Mobil SHC 800 Series of synthetic oils for gas turbine applications.

The improved Mobil SHC 800 Series of oils, which include Mobil SHC 824 (ISO 32 grade) and Mobil SHC 825 (ISO 46 grade), offer excellent high-temperature performance, rust protection, deposit control and water separating ability, helping to minimize maintenance costs and equipment problems. Both Solar and Siemens have approved the new Mobil SHC 800 oils for stationary gas turbines.

“Our challenge in reformulating Mobil SHC 800 Series oils was to improve demulsibility while retaining low sludge-forming tendencies and other benefits in what is already the best overall performing oil for stationary gas turbines,” said Steve Clements, industrial lubricants products advisor, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties. “In extensive laboratory tests and in severe gas turbine application field trials the new Mobil SHC 800 series of oils exceeded all of our expectations, demonstrating exceptional performance in all areas.”

Demulsibility refers to the ability of oil to separate from water. During operation of a gas-powered turbine, water may be picked up by oil circulation, broken into droplets and mixed with the oil, forming an emulsion. When emulsions persist, they can join with other deposit-forming materials to form excessive sludge that damages critical operating parts. With its enhanced water separating additives, Mobil SHC 800 Series can dramatically help to extend oil life and performance.

Mobil’s SHC 800 Series of synthetic lubricants are formulated using a balanced combination of advanced additive technology and highest-quality, wax-free, synthesized hydrocarbon fluids (SHC is a Mobil trademark that stands for “synthesized hydrocarbons”). The products are designed to provide exceptional lubrication for all types of stationary gas turbines, including those that frequently operate in extreme environments, often 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
