Infrared System heat-shrinks FEP tubing on catheters.
January 22, 2004 -
Automated system employs Radround(TM) IR heater rated at 2 kW and mounted on vertical axis. Heater has cylindrical inner quartz core that produces uniform IR heat, while thermocouple feedback control loop allows for temperature control. System measures 11 x 2.75 x 2.5 ft and accommodates motorized mandrel/cable hoist to automate product feed. Integral control system is mounted in a NEMA 12 enclosure, and PLC supervises control logic.
Glenro Infrared System Heat-Shrinks FEP Tubing on Catheters
. . . Integral Control System for Precise Processing
PATERSON, N.J.--Jan. 20, 2004--Glenro designs and manufactures a machine that heat-shrinks FEP tubing over catheter shafts. The automated system enables manufacturers of medical products to increase productivity. The heart of the heat-shrink system is a Glenro Radround(TM) infrared heater, rated at 2 kW and mounted on a vertical axis. Radround infrared heaters have a cylindrical inner quartz core that produces intense, uniform infrared heat with high efficiency. The cylindrical design of Radround infrared heaters minimizes heat loss, and directs the infrared heat onto the product. A thermocouple feedback control loop allows precise temperature control. Infrared heater operating temperature is adjustable, and once set requires no further attention. Material handling is with a hoist system that allows adjustment of dwell time for the catheter.
The system measures 11 feet high by 2.75 feet wide by 2.5 feet deep. The height accommodates a motorized mandrel/cable hoist to automate product feed and processing time. The hoist and pulley are built from stainless steel for clean operation and long, trouble-free service life. An integral control system is mounted in a NEMA 12 enclosure, and includes all temperature and speed control equipment and operator interface. A programmable logic controller supervises the control logic.
