January 14, 2004 - GapMax™ turret saver forming system guide enables production of maximum height forms in thick turret punch presses without risk of damage to tool, machine, or successive forms in sheet metal. It protects machine turret while using entire turret gap for forming applications and eliminates potential for collision between press ram and tool during tool changes. Product allows for length adjustment of tool in .002 in. increments between guide shoulder and point of form.

New GapMax™ From Mate Increases Press/Turret Safety, Increases Productivity And Reduces Tool Setup Time

Anoka, Minnesota: Mate Precision Tooling has introduced GapMax™, the turret saver forming system guide, into its line of UltraForm tooling.
GapMax enables the production of maximum height forms in thick turret punch presses without risk of damage to the tool, the machine, or to successive forms in the sheet metal.
GapMax protects the machine turret while using the entire turret gap for forming applications in most model thick turret presses. It increases press turret safety and productivity while reducing tool setup time. It does this by eliminating the potential for collision between the press ram and the tool during tool changes. The length adjustment design assures that the shoulder of the guide cannot apply force to the top of the turret during the downward cycle of the ram stroke.
A spring mechanism in the shoulder of the guide allows production of maximum height forms by fully vacating the turret gap to eliminate any possible interference with tall forms in the sheet being punched. This mechanism is compressed during the ram’s stroke cycle, the proper form is achieved and then the ram returns, allowing the mechanism to expand, which holds the tool out of the turret gap.
GapMax allows for precise length adjustment of the tool in .002 in. (0.005 mm) increments between the shoulder of the guide and the point of the form, ensuring accurate and crisp forms.
Fully compatible with all current and earlier Mate UltraForm inserts, the open compatibility of the GapMax system allows the fabricator to cost-effectively keep tool inventory current and ready for future fabrication projects.
The GapMax system is available for 2” C, 3-1/2” D and 4-1/2” E stations for Amada, Finn-Power, Murata Wiedemann, Euromac, Nisshinbo, Strippitt and other punch presses using thick turret style tooling.
