IR Curing Tower improves manufacturing of medical tubing.

November 25, 2003 - Infrared tower uses 2 Radround(TM) short wave IR heaters and drive system to cure silicone tubing at adjustable rates. Heaters have clamshell design and consist of rapid-response T3 lamps. Focused, 91.2 kW IR heat ensures tubing reaches green strength. Ready for product processing almost immediately on power-up, it cools fast enough so that product is not damaged when line stops. Parabolic reflectors direct IR energy to product for added efficiency.

Glenro High Intensity Infrared Curing Tower Improves Manufacturing of Medical Tubing Press

Release Date: 11/21/2003 Body Text: Glenro, Inc. has introduced a new, high intensity infrared tower that uses short wave infrared heaters and a drive system to cure silicone tubing at adjustable rates. A driven capstan wheel pulls the extrusion from the die up through the heaters. The intense (91.2 kW), focused, infrared heat ensures that the tubing reaches green strength quickly, which maintains the desired diameter and wall thickness of the extrusion.

The system features two high intensity Radround(TM) infrared heaters which consist of rapid-response T3 lamps. In addition to delivering intense heat in a short distance, the heaters are ready for product processing almost immediately on power-up and cool so quickly that the product is not damaged when the line stops. Parabolic reflectors direct the infrared energy to the product for added efficiency. The heaters have a clamshell design and can be opened for easy product threading.

The heated length of the system is just over six feet. The overall height is 15.5 feet. Glenro ships the tower assembled to minimize installation costs. Process controls are mounted in a NEMA 12 enclosure on the tower. Product heating is controlled by a closed loop feedback system using an optical pyrometer for non-contact product temperature measurement and SCR power controllers to regulate power to the heaters.

Headquartered in Paterson, New Jersey, Glenro Inc. provides process heating engineering and equipment for a wide range of industries and applications. Glenro serves customers through a network of sales offices.
