Gas Monitor combines PID and 4-gas sensors.

November 20, 2003 - MultiRAE Plus combines PhotoIonization Detector (PID) for toxic VOCs with O2, LEL, and 2 toxic gas sensors in one compact monitor. Instrument offers total protection in potentially toxic environments. Gas plate is integrated into instrument, and case is made of carbon-filled ABS. Unit detects low levels of VOCs without false alarms, and is suited for applications from confined space entry to HazMat/WMD response teams.

RAE Systems Enhances MultiRAE Plus

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-November 18, 2003-RAE Systems Inc. (AMEX: RAE), a leading global developer and manufacturer of rapidly-deployable, multi-sensor chemical detection monitors and networks for homeland security and industrial applications, today announced key enhancements to the company's flagship product, the MultiRAE Plus. The MultiRAE Plus is the first product to combine a PhotoIonization Detector (PID) for toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with the "standard" four gases (O2, LEL, and two toxic gas sensors) in one compact monitor. The PID in the MultiRAE Plus has been tested against more than 300 toxic chemicals. The instrument continues to offer first responders, industrial hygienists and professional safety personnel total protection in potentially toxic environments. With over 10,000 MultiRAE Pluses sold, the MultiRAE Plus has proven itself in applications from confined space entry to HazMat/WMD response teams.

Enhancements to the MultiRAE Plus include:

Elimination of all but two coin-operable screws on the cover for fast access to battery and sensors

Incorporation of the gas plate into the instrument cover giving users fast, direct access to the battery and sensors

Removal of the internal pump hose connections for improved reliability and accuracy

Using carbon-filled ABS as the plastic used to form the case to provide the conductivity necessary for European ATEX certification.

"Most confined space monitors provide less than total protection because they miss many toxic VOC gases. LEL sensors measure explosivity, not toxicity, and many Volatile Organic Compounds are potentially toxic at levels that are well below the sensitivity of the LEL sensors found in most multi-gas monitors," said Bob Durstenfeld, Director of Marketing for RAE Systems. "For example, by the time LEL sensors respond to gasoline vapors, the air is already toxic. The MultiRAE more accurately detects low levels of VOCs without false alarms that are prevalent with other 'broadband' sensors and the two toxic sensor slots give the instrument the flexibility not found in other gas monitors."

As of November 17th, 2003, all MultiRAE Pluses will ship with this new and improved case with no increase in price. For more information, please visit www.raesystems.com, call 408-752-0723, or e-mail RAESales@raesystems.com.
