November 10, 2003 - Ability Office Software consists of 5 modules providing word processor, spreadsheet, database, digital photo and image editor, and drawing module that allows user to manipulate images and create email-friendly PDF files. Suite is fully compatible with data files generated in MS Office as well as Adobe PDF and all major photo file formats. Streamlined package requires only 40MB or less of hard disk space and 32MB of RAM.

In contrast to MS Office Professional’s resource-hungry system requirements and typical retail price of almost $600, Ability Office offers a streamlined alternative of comparable power for only $49.99 that requires only 40MB or less of hard disk space and 32MB of RAM. Ability Office can be installed on any system that has Windows 95 or higher operating system.

Ability Office consists of five integrated modules: Ability Write, Ability Spreadsheet, Ability Database, Ability Photopaint, and Ability Draw.

Ability Write, a word processing program comparable to MS Word, provides advanced page layout with tables, frames, columns, image insertion, and a graphic, “text-effects” object editor. All the formatting tools and features a user would expect are included, such as a spell checker and thesaurus, drag-and-drop editing, paragraph styles, frame call-outs, footnotes, borders and backgrounds, template selection, and Mail Merge of MS Access data queries. It even offers one significant improvement over standard word processing software: “on-the-fly” querying of merged fields for ultra fast access to records based on sort criteria such as name, address, or billing date. Users can import and export file formats for MS Word, WordPerfect, Lotus AmiPro, RTF, and HTML.

Ability Spreadsheet, a spreadsheet program comparable to MS Excel, provides a multi-sheet work book interface with named sheets and sheet formatting. Users can 'print-to-fit', use different styles and templates, produce a wide variety of charts, insert and edit cell comments, and, using Intelligent Drag and Drop, copy, move and fill cells, rows and columns. Ability Spreadsheet also goes beyond the limitations of standard spreadsheet functionality, by providing Mail Merge of sheets just like word processing documents.

Ability Database, a relational database program comparable to MS Access, includes tables, relations, queries, forms, reports, indexes, primary keys, and other frequently used “number crunching” features. With its powerful SQL Database Engine based on Microsoft’s DAO/JET engine, users can import and export files from MS Access and other leading databases, as well as attach external data tables. Ability Database has even improved on Access in a few areas. By redefining SQL querying, Ability Database provides a more flexible, interactive, user-friendly means of selecting, browsing and sorting query results.

Unlike MS Access, Ability Database allows you to quickly create simple queries “on-the-fly” by combining query components, without having to define a new query. Besides this time saving measure, Ability Database allows you to create auto forms or auto-reports at the click of a mouse, a feature not available to MS Access users.

With Ability Photopaint, a photo and image editing program similar to Adobe PhotoShop, users can source images from any TWAIN compatible device, including digital cameras and scanners. They can use a complete range of image enhancement tools to improve brightness, contrast, change color levels, and reduce “red-eye.” Complex selection tools can be used with multiple layer support for applying changes to individual parts of composite images, including a multilevel undo/redo function limited only by available memory. This graphical editor also includes over ninety built-in special effects filters, powerful gradient, brush and pattern editors, and support for twenty-five standard image file formats, including JPG, PNG, BMP, PCX, TIF, and Adobe PhotoShop PSD.

Ability Draw, a 'mini-module' within Ability Office, delivers vector drawing tools allowing users to create object based logos, banners, and collages for insertion into documents, spreadsheets and database forms.

Ability Office has already garnered many awards in the UK, including PC Answers’ 2003 Platinum Award and Personal Computer World’s 2003 Editor’s Choice Award, among others. Ability Office has also been ranked highly in several independent reviews of available office suites.
