Transparent Heater utilizes ITO technology.

October 28, 2003 - With no wires in clear view area, 78000 Series heater uses Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) technology to allow for maximum visible light transmission (VLT). Used to warm LCD panels found in cold, moist environments down to -40ºF, it offers 85-90% VLT when applied to application. Features include transparent, pressure-sensitive adhesive; electrically-conductive transparent film; optical grade, thin-film polyester; and 0.155 W/cm² energy-consumption.

The Honeywell 78000 Series Transparent Heater

ITO technology allows maximum visible light transmission

FREEPORT, Ill., October 16, 2003 - Honeywell [NYSE: HON] Sensing and Control has introduced the 78000 Series Transparent Heater, a truly transparent device having no wires in the clear view area. Whereas other products use small resistance wires sandwiched between two layers of polyester, the 78000 Series uses Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) technology to allow for maximum visible light transmission (VLT).

The 78000 Series are used to warm liquid crystal display (LCD) panels found in cold, moist environments down to -40 ºF. Typically, these applications include gas pumps, forklift trucks, hand-held terminals, and outdoor security camera lenses. The 78000 Series introduces these features:
o 85% to 90% VLT when applied to the customer's application
o electrically-conductive transparent film which eliminates the need for resistance wires or traces, and also accommodates EMI/RFI shielding applications
o optical grade, thin-film polyester ensures clarity and provides optimum readability in extreme environments
o transparent pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) permits light transmission up to 93% and eliminates the shadow effect from wire-wound versions, as well as allowing the heating element to be mounted in front of or behind the LCD
o low energy-consumption of one watt or less per square inch (0.155 W/cm²) allows the device to be mounted either by battery or with line power
o custom designed geometry to fit the customer's application exactly
o may be combined with thermostats, thermistors, thermocouples and thermal fuses to form custom-engineered heating assemblies
