October 13, 2003 - Carried by release film, FoamTag™ consists of .008 in. thick, stainless steel, laser-markable tag atop foam adhesive. Marking of tag is accomplished via low-power CO2 laser printer. Product survives in temperatures to 400°F and liquids typical in machining operations. It is possible to append additional laser markings after tag has been affixed, enabling cradle to grave traceability.

FoamTag™

Conventional adhesive labels typically do not adhere robustly to rough or cast surfaces. InfoSight Corporation has developed a secure label for such applications called FoamTag™. The FoamTag™ consists of a (.008” thick) stainless steel, laser markable tag atop a foam adhesive. The tag and adhesive are carried by a release film. Marking of the tag is accomplished by a low power CO2 laser printer such as the InfoSight LabeLase® 1000 unit (10 watts). The FoamTag™ label can survive 400°F temperatures and the liquids typical in machining operations.

It is even possible to append additional laser markings after the tag has been affixed. For example, a casting may be identified at the foundry with a FoamTag™ bearing a tracking number. This same tag can be later marked in the machining facility with a specific part number and date codes. This enables “cradle to grave” traceability.
