Force Computers Announces Evolution of its Carrier-Grade, High Availability Solutions with Next-Generation EndurX CO 21KX System

• Standards-based, Carrier Grade Linux, High Availability platform integrates Intel® Pentium® M processing, Gigabit Ethernet switching

• EndurX enables zero-downtime services with scalability and interoperability across chassis boundaries

• Distributed resource management software keeps system resources available in case of failures - with optional scalability to network-resident nodes

COMMUNICATIONS DESIGN CONFERENCE, SAN JOSE, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2003) - Force Computers, a Solectron company and a leader in embedded computing, today announced the latest addition to its EndurX(tm) CO 21KX Carrier Grade, High Availability system family for zero-downtime services. As Force's newest revolutionary Central Office solution, the Intel® Pentium® M processor based EndurX CO 21KX with Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) switching offers the EndurX High Availability (HA) middleware and software upgradeability in a "five nines" ready platform for carrier-grade applications. Force Computers is a Premier Member of the Intel® Communications Alliance.

"Building on Force's EndurX HA stack, the EndurX CO 21KX system offers a NEBS Level 3 design with rear access to all external cabling and front access to service active components," said Michael Schaepers, Force product marketing manager. "Providing a fully integrated solution from a single source, EndurX CO 21KX allows OEMs to outsource an open-standards-based HA platform and concentrate on their core competencies and value-add. Also, with its basis on the well established industry-standard PICMG 2.16 for CompactPCI Packet-Switching Backplanes (cPSB), this system provides proven architecture, available today for zero-downtime services."

Standards-based High Availability platform for Carrier-Grade applications

Communications network downtime can be both costly and dangerous. Architected for "five nines" uptime, the EndurX CO 21KX PICMG 2.16 compliant embedded CompactPCI Packet-Switching Backplane (cPSB) platform minimizes both planned and unplanned downtime and provides continuous service during fault recovery. The EndurX CO 21KX provides this level of protection through a combination of:

• Redundancy on the component level to avoid single points of failure

• Repair and upgrade of a running system without impacting system service

• Remote access for system monitoring and control

• Carrier Grade Linux OS and EndurX High Availability software framework

The net result is a standards-based, High Availability server ideally suited for data-intensive Central Office and networking applications, including softswitches, media gateway controllers, VoIP concentrators, multimedia servers, signaling gateways, cable head-end, IP/DSLAM and wireless infrastructure applications.

Internet Protocol (IP) based computing network support
The EndurX series is intended to provide and support an Internet Protocol (IP) based computing network for continuity on the system service level. Leveraging advanced software functionality, the EndurX CO 21KX utilizes dual Intel Pentium M processor nodes and adds two software level features on top of the Centellis CO 21KX system in the form of an intelligent High Availability management instance and a new API to support applications by providing a continuous system service. Additional standard system features include:

• 19 slots for PICMG 2.16-supported blades (for any type of application)

• 12U chassis with rear access I/O

• NEBS Level 3 design for telecom applications

• Redundant N+1 Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet fabric switches

• Redundant, integrated Shelf Management Controllers with SNMP access

• Preconfigured with MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition operating system

• GoAhead's SelfReliant middleware for automated resource management

• A set of services supporting the application layer to achieve continuous availability

• A Force object layer giving SelfReliant direct access to all hardware components within the shelf

"EndurX CO 21KX offers a major step forward in the form of technology evolution like Intel Pentium M processor-based node boards that communicate via Gigabit Ethernet fabric," said Chris Williams, Force vice president and general manager of worldwide product and strategic marketing and engineering. "Providing a platform to accelerate time-to-market, the EndurX CO 21KX enables OEMs to focus on their value-added applications and services."

Availability and pricing

EndurX CO 21KX systems fully integrated with dual redundant MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition/Intel Pentium M processor nodes, GigE switches, EndurX HA middleware, HA platform management and SNMP remote management in a 12U/19-slot, PICMG 2.16 cPSB chassis, NEBS Level 3 design will be available through Force's Early Access Unit (EAU) program Q4 2003. Single-unit prices starts at $27,000. All monetary amounts are stated in U.S. dollars. For more information, call 800-FORCE99 or e-mail info@fci.com.
