Resistors and Terminations are millimeter-wave characterized.

July 31, 2003 - Thermally conductive thick-film chip resistors and attenuators, characterized at 10, 20, and 40 GHz frequency bands, mount face down on circuit board or hybrid substrate. Resistor element is within same plane as rest of circuit to minimize capacitive effects of wraparound termination. Aluminum-nitride power-chip terminations offer 50 ohm performance into millimeter frequency bands. Metal terminations are available in platinum, silver, and gold.

IMS Introduces Millimeter Wave Characterized Resistors and Terminations

Portsmouth, Rhode Island, USA – International Manufacturing Services, Inc. (IMS), a leading supplier of thick and thin film chip resistors and chip attenuators to the electronics industry, announces the introduction of several product families of thick film chip resistors and attenuators characterized at the 10, 20 and 40 GHz frequency bands. The high frequency response of these devices makes them ideal for hybrid millimeter wave communication circuits extending from fiber optic circuits and instrumentation applications.

Resistor dimensions range from .030” x .020” to .080”. These resistors are designed to be mounted face down on the circuit board or hybrid substrate. Having the resistor element within the same plane as the rest of the circuit minimizes the capacitive effects of the wraparound termination.

IMS Aluminum Nitride power chip terminations offer solid 50 ohm performance well into the millimeter frequency bands. Beyond frequency response, high thermal conductivity ensures optimum power dissipation in a small package size. Metal terminations are available in platinum, silver, and gold, facilitating both epoxy and wire bond attachment. Both the millimeter wave resistors and aluminum nitride terminations are available in tape and reel as well as in bulk.

IMS manufactures quality thick film chip resistors, both standard and custom, for applications ranging from automotive sensors to high frequency microwave and medical equipment. IMS has been supplying the electronics manufacturing industry with highest quality thick and thin film chip resistors and chip attenuators since 1974.
