Laminates offer abrasion and scuff resistance.

July 17, 2003 - Armored Protection™ Surface provides high pressure laminates with better wear value than NEMA standard, as well as retention of pattern clarity. Thin deposit of microscopic particles of aluminum oxide act as protective layer on laminate surface, reducing gloss change in worktops, tables, and counter surfaces. Resistance to gloss change also means less perceived color change during life of laminates.

Nevamar HPL with Armored Protection™ Surface Protects Designs from the Daily Grind

Odenton, Md., June 23, 2003 - Nevamar's Armored Protection™ Surface provides high pressure laminates with superior durability, abrasion and scuff resistance properties. The application of this proprietary process results in significantly better wear value than the NEMA standard for laminates, as well as retention of pattern clarity and "brand new" appearance during a much longer period of the laminates' useful life.

In addition to having all of the typical properties of conventional laminates, Armored Protection laminates provide improved abrasion resistance due to the application of a very thin deposit of microscopic particles of aluminum oxide that acts as a protective layer on the laminate surface. This reduces gloss change, often the first sign of wear in worktops, tables and counter surfaces. The resistance to gloss change also means less perceived color change during the life of the laminates. Only Nevamar has it and it is available on most textured finish Nevamar high pressure laminates including solids, wood grains and patterns.

Commenting on how Armored Protection benefits designers and fabricators, Linda Kerechek, Nevamar® Brand Manager, stated, "Minimizing the effects of wear abrasion is a key benefit to longer lasting designs and performance of countertops, work surfaces and store fixtures. Typical abrasive wear is caused by the sand or silica particles contained in dust or dirt and found in everyday objects such as printed materials, boxes, bags, and metal and plastic objects. Since silica is much softer than aluminum oxide, our Armored Protection™ surfaces resist the abrasive action of most objects much better than melamine resin can by itself."
