Cutting Torches feature in-head flash arrestor.

August 1, 2003 - Dual-Guard Torches stop flashback in head of torch, protecting operator from injury and torch from internal damage. Large diameter, heavy-wall stainless tubes enable high volume gas flow with capacity to cut steel up to 24 in. thick. Three-tube construction keeps gases separate until they mix in head. Forged manganese bronze hammer style head reduces warping from heat. Standard lengths range from 17–48 in. with 75, 90, and 180 head angles.

New Dual-Guard Cutting Torch from Smith Equipment Features Revolutionary In-Head Flash Arrestor

• Double protection against flashback for added safety

• Designed for heavy-duty cutting up to 24 inches thick

WATERTOWN, S.D. Aug. 1, 2003 For double safety protection, Smith Equipment’s new Dual-Guard Torch series features a revolutionary in-head flash arrestor coupled with three-tube construction that keeps gases separate until they mix in the head. Dual-Guard Torches will be available beginning August 2003 with 75, 90 and 180 degree head angles and standard lengths from 17 to 48 inches.

“The Dual-Guard Torch stops flashbacks in the head of the torch. This reduces weight and bulk at the back of the torch and helps protect the operator from injury and the torch from internal damage,” says Bruce Buhler, training and product manager, Smith Equipment. Suppressing flashback at the torch head also protects other components from damage, such as the high pressure seat.

The in-head flash arrestor weighs less than two ounces, and, like all other components, it is covered by Smith’s exclusive lifetime warranty and service agreement. “We built the Dual-Guard Torch to last a lifetime—and to help protect the owner for a lifetime,” states Buhler.

Heavy-Duty and Ergonomic

Smith designed Dual-Guard Torches for all cutting applications. Large diameter, heavy-wall stainless tubes enable high volume gas flow with the capacity to cut steel up to 24 inches thick, more than any other hand torch available. This extremely durable torch features a forged manganese bronze “hammer style head” to reduce warping from heat; this maintains a positive seat with the cutting tip for best performance. Cutting tips can be changed by hand because Dual-Guard Torches feature Smith’s exclusive “soft seat” tips that eliminate metal-to-metal seating. A new ergonomic handle with raised ribs for a more secure grip reduces operator fatigue.

Other benefits of Dual-Guard Torches include:

• Reverse flow check valves with a replaceable filter to stop contaminants

• Reversible cutting lever that is easily changed for top or bottom mounting

• “Ease-on-oxygen” control that prevents “key holing” (burn-through) and slag blow back

• Nickel plating to reflect heat for extended durability
