Supertex Announces Fully Integrated High Voltage Inrush Limiter/Circuit Breaker/Hotswap IC

HV111 Integrates Power FET and Thermal Sensor

SUNNYVALE, Calif. June 24, 2003 - Supertex Inc. (NASDAQ: SUPX) today announced the HV111, a fully integrated, high voltage Inrush Limiter/Circuit Breaker/Hotswap IC; a complete power management solution for externally powered network equipment and pluggable backplane applications with loads up to 1.65A. Operating from -8.0 to -80V, HV111 requires no external components, eliminates the need for a sense resistor, incorporates an on-board thermal sensor that ensures fail-safe circuit protection and has three separate current control algorithms for maximum safety and flexibility.

HV111 is targeted for applications <1.65A. HV111 includes an on-board 80V, 2 Amp MOSFET that saves designers overall system cost as well as valuable board space, combined with an UVLO supervisor that when satisfied will begin a POR phase to prevent false start during input supply bouncing.

"In today's telecom/networking marketplace emphasis is on simple, low cost solutions to power management problems. HV111 integrates all of the power management needs and replaces scores of discrete components with a single DPAK-5 footprint," states David Schie, Supertex's Vice President. "With multi-level current control, rugged junction isolated construction and integrated thermal sensor, HV111 makes a system bullet proof to faults."

Additional features include: 1) a "dead short" detector to restrict excess power dissipation; 2) 1.2A inrush current limiting with 75msec timeout for component protection, and to prevent EMI and voltage glitches; 3) fast return to limit for diode 'OR'ing or current fault (with 75msec timeout) that prevents false triggering the circuit breaker during switch over from battery to main power; 4) 2A circuit breaker for over current protection; 5) high voltage open drain PWRGD that eliminates the need for costly level shift circuitry and; 6) 9 sec auto-retry.

The HV111K4 is available in a thermally rugged DPAK-5 package that provides improved thermal resistance when compared to SO-8 based solutions. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$1.48 each in 1K quantities.
