July 10, 2003 - Model LSG-2-GF continuously blends flowing stream of calibration standards mixture. It uses permeation technology to add analyte to precisely known flow of clean water to form primary mixture, an aliquot of which is then diluted to form liquid standard. Dilution water flows are controlled by precision metering pumps. Concentrations ranging from sub ppb (w/w) to several ppm are possible, and output flow range is 10–200 cc/min.

Throughout industry, leaks in heat exchangers can result in cooling water becoming contaminated with trace concentrations of volatile compounds including highly reactive volatile organics, toxic organics, solvent vapors, etc. When the water is chilled in a cooling tower those contaminants become air pollutants. To insure early detection of problems, cooling water is monitored for the presence of dissolved VOCs. Preparing and maintaining reliable calibration standards for those analyzers is extremely difficult because the VOCs evaporate preferentially from the standard. The very volatile, highly reactive VOCs (HRVOCs) such as ethylene, propylene, butenes, acetaldehyde, benzene, etc., are especially troublesome.
The Model LSG-2-GF, Liquid Standards Generator dynamically blends a flowing stream of calibration standard mixture. Permeation technology is used to add a tiny flow of analyte to a precisely known flow of clean water to form a primary mixture. An aliquot of the primary mixture is then further diluted to form the liquid standard. Concentration of the standard is adjusted by varying the aliquot added to the final dilution water. Dilution water flows are controlled by precision metering pumps.
Concentrations ranging from sub ppb (w/w) to several ppm (or about 5% of solubility, whichever is lower) are possible. The output flow range of the system is ten cc/min. to two hundred cc/min. Mixture is produced continuously, so the system is ideally suited to service with on-line analyzers.
