Coherent Introduces Compact, 300-Watt CO2 Laser at LASER 2003

Santa Clara, Calif., June 25, 2003 – Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq:COHR) will introduce the DIAMOND™ K-300—a compact, hard-sealed, 10.6-µm, 300-watt CO2 laser—at LASER 2003 in Munich, Germany, June 23-26, 2003.

The DIAMOND K-300 is the latest addition to Coherent’s successful DIAMOND laser family and will replace the company’s 250-watt version, the DIAMOND K-250. “The improvement in power will allow end-users to increase production speeds, product output, and maintain high production quality,” said Stephen Lee, Coherent product line manager. “And since we’ve engineered the K-300 to fit the same package size as our former 250W product, it’s a simple drop-in replacement.”

The DIAMOND K-300 has also been designed with an improved, repackaged power module. This turnkey package allows users to install the laser by simply connecting it to a water supply and electrical utilities. And all controls are accessible from a remote-control unit.

The new K-300 laser shares the hallmarks of Coherent’s DIAMOND K Series lasers, including the diffusion-cooled, slab technology that allows them to be compact, sealed and scalable within a single resonator. DIAMOND lasers also feature high peak power, square pulse shapes, fast rise times, excellent mode quality, proven reliability and no gas recharging. These characteristics combine for a fast-processing, rugged, long lifetime, no-maintenance laser that is ideal for applications such as non-metal cutting, thin-metal cutting, precision welding and ceramics processing.

Founded in 1966, Coherent, Inc. is a Standard & Poor’s SmallCap 600 Company and a world leader in providing photonics-based solutions for the commercial and scientific research markets. Please direct any questions to Stephen Lee, product line manager for CO2 laser systems, at (408) 764-4663.
