DAQ System is ASTM E139 compliant.

July 1, 2003 - Creep and Rupture data acquisition system captures deformation as factor of time (creep test) and measurement of time for fracture (rupture test). Multiple stations are monitored by PC to develop historical database and record % strain and temperature concurrently for each station. Data points are logged to database at select intervals and displayed on PC in graph form. Data only logged when necessary and zipped into reduced file for efficiency.

ASTM E139 Compliant Data Acquisition System Developed

A Creep and Rupture data acquisition system, compliant with ASTM E139, has been developed by MAS Associates, Inc of Queensbury, NY.

The system captures the deformation as a factor of time (creep test) and the measurement of time for fracture (rupture test). Multiple stations are monitored by a PC developing a historical database, recording the percent strain and temperature concurrently for each station. During the heat-up stage and throughout the entire test, each data point is logged to the database and displayable on the PC as a graph. During the test cycle, each data point is logged at a selectable time period (ie 6 min, 1 hour, etc). When the creep rate increases, the percent (%) strain is recorded at the higher rate (ie 20 seconds).

This technique creates an accurate representation with high resolution of the deformation characteristic when the material has begun to elongate rapidly. In this manner the data is only logged when necessary and is zipped into a small file for file efficiency.

The system can communicate either with an SLVC system or through LVDT or DVRT transducers. An IO network is supplied with the system for direct communication with the temperature sensors and the rupture switches. The I/O can be any one of a number of different manufactures.

The data is also logged to a spreadsheet file for post processing via an Excel macro. When a rupture occurs the time is logged to both the database and the spreadsheet. Alarms or notices can be generated to notify operators when the system goes into the high-data-capture mode or when a rupture has occurred.

There is a built-in sensitivity and accuracy-measuring technique in the system for both dimensional and temperature readings. When using the calibration system the data is logged to a spreadsheet for test stand setup compliance.

When the PC is connected to a network, the system can log data remotely and send alarms and updates via reports to remote clients. Each system is customized to the clients needs for the number of stations as well as the reporting criteria.
