TAOS, Inc. Announces Evaluation Module for Integrated RGB Color Sensor with Digital-Compatible InterfaceNew TCS230 Evaluation Module Designed for Use beyond Initial Product Evaluation
April 23, 2003 (Plano, TX) - A new evaluation module from Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions®, Inc. (TAOS) enables designers to quickly and easily evaluate the company’s TCS230 Programmable Color Light-to-Frequency Converter. The TCS230EVM consists of a lens module with white LED illuminator, a Parallax Board of Education (BOE) module and programmed BASIC Stamp, and PC host software. The BASIC Stamp provides the interface between the TCS230 output and the PC serial port. The Windows software displays the RGB (red, green, blue) output values from the TCS230, and allows the user to view the color detected by the module in both RGB and HSV (hue, saturation and value) color space.
The TCS230EVM package also includes the Parallax BASIC Stamp Editor software, allowing users to develop their own software and run it on the TCS230 EVM. Additionally, the Board of Education provides a breadboard area and additional connections for prototype circuitry, allowing the EVM to be used as a complete development platform for systems utilizing the TCS230 RGB color sensor.
"The TCS230EVM represents two important ‘firsts’ in the TAOS marketing strategy," said Carlo Strippoli, TAOS vice president of marketing & sales. "The TCS230EVM is our first Evaluation Module that can be used as a development platform. It is also our first Evaluation Module to be offered on the website of one of our ‘technology partners,’ Parallax. Both of these ‘firsts’ are enabling TAOS to expand the sphere of influence for Lumenology® - the TAOS light sensing technology."
The TCS230 Programmable Color Light-to-Frequency Converter integrates red, green and blue (RGB) filters on a single die. It is built on a high-performance light-to-frequency converter platform that enables 10-12 bits or better resolution per color channel without the need for expensive analog-to-digital converters. The TCS230 color sensor is well suited for use in colorimeter applications such as color printers, medical diagnostics, computer color monitor calibration, process controls and color matching applications with paints, textiles, cosmetics and printed materials.
The complete TCS230EVM is available now from TAOS, Inc. and its authorized distributors as well as Parallax. It is priced at $150 plus shipping and handling costs.
