BivarOpto(TM) Introduces Solaris(TM) Mega Bright Surface Mount LEDs Featuring Integrated Heat Sink, High Current Drive Capabilities

Irvine, Calif - February 27, 2003 - BivarOpto(TM), the Optoelectronics Division of Bivar, Inc., announces the Solaris(TM) SM Series of high performance surface mount LED devices, providing a compact, low-profile chip with forward current drive ranges from 75-175mA (IF), ideally suited for improved brightness and packaging versatility in automotive, instrumentation, outdoor displays (daylight visible), and portable device applications.

The Solaris Series is available in five colors, including Blue, True Green, Red, Yellow and White, with luminance intensities ranging from 1400 - 2000 mcd, at 75mA and 175mA forward current (IF) respectively. Similarly, high total flux levels are characteristic (4000 - 5500mlm), demonstrating excellent high brightness and contrast. Forward voltages range from 2.2-5.5 volts typical. Operating temperature is -40° to +100°C, with power dissipation ranging from 525 - 450mW by integrating a proprietary heatsink structure into the surface mountable device.

Contributing to the performance features inherent within the devices, these miniaturized SMT LEDs are packaged in highly compact 6.0mm square packages with a profile only 1.5mm in height. For added versatility, they provide a wide 120° viewing angle, ideal for applications requiring high intensity illumination and improved visibility in the widest possible off axis range. Units demonstrate a low thermal resistance of 20K/W (Rth(js),) and are compatible for both IR and flow; soldering. These Ultra-Bright LED chips are available on 1000 piece, 330mm diameter reels configured for automatic insertion.

Noting the added freedom for design these devices will offer, Anthony Vilgiate, Vice President Strategic Business Development, commented, "The Solaris Series introduces the latest in LED technology improvements and represents the current state-of-art. I see applications in automotive, outdoor display, medical and safety industries that require expanded environmental capabilities will find the Solaris to be the answer to their
existing design dilemmas."

Immediately available from stock in 1000 pieces per reel, typical pricing in production quantities for standard colors is $ 1.00. each. For more information, contact Bivar, Inc. at
