Boiler-Water Analyzer detects low levels of chloride.

February 14, 2003 - Capable of detecting chloride at levels of 10 ±5 ppb by ion-selective electrode, Model 1817LL On-Line Low-Level Chloride Analyzer exceeds Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) guidelines for control of boiler water under equilibrium phosphate treatment (EPT) in system operating at 2,500 psia. EPT reduces phosphate hideout and acid-phosphate corrosion associated with it.

Thermo Orion Introduces the New 1817LL On-Line Low Level Chloride Analyzer for Boiler Water

BEVERLY, Mass. (February 5, 2003) - Thermo Orion, a Thermo Electron business (NYSE:TMO) and leader in the development and manufacturing of chemical measurement product lines, introduces the new 1817LL On-Line Low-Level Chloride Analyzer.

The new Thermo Orion 1817 Low-Level Chloride Analyzer exceeds EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) guidelines for the control of boiler water under equilibrium phosphate treatment (EPT). In these guidelines, EPRI suggests that chloride levels in EPT boilers operating at 17.2 MPa (2500 psia), should be maintained below 30 ppb+/-10 ppb. The 1817LL is capable of detecting chloride at levels of 10+/-5 ppb by ion-selective electrode (ISE).

A high percentage of boiler operators have moved from congruent phosphate treatment (CPT) to equilibrium phosphate treatment (EPT). EPT, which uses significantly lower phosphate concentrations than CPT, has the advantage of reducing phosphate hideout and the acid-phosphate corrosion that is associated with it. However, it has become evident that EPT requires lower levels of contaminants, especially chloride, to prevent corrosion due to the formation of hydrochloric acid. The 1817LL can detect Chloride at these low levels and is far more cost effective and less cumbersome than Ion Chromatography or existing on-line methods.

Thermo Orion is an ISO 9001-registered manufacturer of quality chemical measurement products. Thermo Orion's line of products includes pH, ion selective electrode (ISE), colorimeters, conductivity and dissolved oxygen meter, electrodes, accessories, and solutions. Thermo Orion also offers a complete line of syringe pumps, microbalances, titrators and Pure Waterâ„¢ online process monitors. Most recently, the company expanded its already extensive product offering to include a complete line of liquid-handling systems, autosampler, the award-winning EZ-Flash® gas chromatography accessory, and the TEA Analyzers detector for HPLC and GC. These systems prove that Thermo Orion is committed to providing the best instrumentation for a wide array of laboratory analyses.
