Transducer System addresses DE measurement.
February 7, 2003 - Suited for use with medium- and large-sized steam turbines used in power generation service, transducer system utilizes 25 mm proximity probe, extension cable, and Proximitor® sensor. Probe, available in various case styles and thread sizes, replaces existing 25 mm and 35 mm installations. System is compatible with existing Bently Nevada monitoring systems, using same power requirements and providing same output signal as previous DE transducer systems.

Bently Nevada Announces New Differential Expansion Transducer System
MINDEN, 30 JANUARY 2003 – To better address the critical measurement of Differential Expansion (DE) in medium- and large-sized steam turbines used in power generation service, Bently Nevada today introduced an improved version of its 25 mm proximity transducer system. The system offers enhanced robustness and performance, and is backward compatible with existing Bently Nevada DE transducer and monitor installations.
During turbine run-ups and run-downs, thermal conditions change and the turbine’s rotor and casing can expand/contract at different rates. The DE measurement allows operators to assess the relative growth or contraction between these machine elements to ensure damaging rubs do not occur. Made in extremely aggressive environments involving elevated temperatures and high humidity levels, the DE measurement requires very robust transducer technology designed to survive in such environments for an extended period of time – often five years or more as is customary between scheduled outages of major machine trains.
The new transducer system utilizes a 25 mm proximity probe, extension cable, and Proximitor® sensor. The probe is available in a variety of standard case styles and thread sizes, allowing it to replace existing 25 mm and 35 mm installations with this newer, more robust technology. The system is compatible with virtually all existing Bently Nevada monitoring systems, using the same power requirements and providing the same output signal as previous DE transducer systems. Its design allows easy replacement of older Bently Nevada DE transducers as well as retrofits to those machines using other transducer types for the DE measurement.
