Coatmaster 550 from Edax Sets New Standards for Coating Thickness Measurement Systems

MAHWAH, NJ—The CoatMaster 550 from EDAX, Inc. answers the needs of the automotive, aerospace, tool & dye, and many other industries for measuring the coating thickness of large parts. The CoatMaster 550 incorporates many features that large-sized platers require, including:

• A large chamber with a width of 23.6" (60cm) and height of 13.8" (350mm)

• A high precision, X-Y motorized stage; and movement in the Z direction via a moveable head

• A choice of an EZ-Load stage that automatically moves in/out of the chamber for rapid sample loading or a non EZ-Load heavy-duty stage that can accommodate up to 44 lbs. (20kg) of weight

• An automated multi-collimator changer capable of holding up to four collimators of various sizes for rapid analysis of different size samples

• A complete array of software for coating thickness determination, element ID, and compositional analysis

The CoatMaster 550 is a state-of-the-art XRF system designed specifically for measuring coating thickness for large parts such as brake pads, back planes, motherboards, wrenches, fixtures, electronics, and other similar size and shape components.

The CoatMaster 550 performs sophisticated peak deconvolution that provides increased accuracy and precision. It has four-times higher count rate and greater throughput than its predecessor, the maXXi and other competitive systems. It can obtain thickness measurement of a single element, multiple layers or alloys as well as concentration measurements with or without the use of standards, via advanced fundamental parameter software. Its GUI is Windows™- based, making it fast and easy to operate and user friendly.

With the introduction of the CoatMaster 550, EDAX adds to its breadth of XRF thickness measurement capabilities and jewelry analyzer products and broadens its extensive product offerings to the coating and plating industry.

EDAX is a premier manufacturer and supplier of microanalysis equipment, electron backscattered diffraction products with a complete line of X-ray fluorescence analyzers for process monitoring, bulk and microanalysis, and coating/plating. It designs, manufactures and services the highest quality products for such industries as electronics, semiconductor, security, forensic, environment, metals, geological, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, universities, and governmental agencies.

EDAX has been an industry leader since 1962, using its extensive experience to develop systems and software for diverse applications, including development of the transistor, Apollo moon program, alloy and superconductor research, and human genome project.

EDAX is a unit of AMETEK Process & Analytical Instruments, a division of AMETEK, Inc., a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors with annual sales of more than $1billion.
