Color Printer produces graphic labels at production speeds.
January 3, 2003 - With Ethernet connectivity, QLS-4100 Xe processes and prints graphic-rich labels with or without variable information. It prints entirely different labels without pausing, and print speed remains constant. Powered by embedded microcontroller that combines multiple processing units, it provides expandable and on-board memory for fonts and images. Digital printer has 300 dpi resolution and prints directly onto labels, tags, and other flexible packaging at speeds to 7 in./sec.

New Full-Color Digital Label Printer; Instantly Prints Graphic Product Labels at Production Speeds
A new high-speed color label printer has been introduced by the QuickLabel Systems Product Group of Astro-Med Inc., West Warwick, RI. The QLS-4100 Xe has faster processing speed than any tabletop color label printer in the world, according to the company. The QLS-4100 Xe represents the latest generation of color label printers produced by QuickLabel Systems. With 200% faster on-board processing, 800% more on-board memory, and new Ethernet connectivity to address color label printers, the QLS-4100 Xe printer extends the production capacity of its predecessor, the QLS-4100 X printer, released in January, 2002.
"Large corporations and small businesses with advanced production systems will easily integrate the QLS-4100 Xe into their packaging lines," said Albert Ondis, CEO of Astro-Med Inc. "It is ideally suited for companies that require fast turnaround of products labeled with both graphic branding and tracking information", continued Ondis.
The QLS-4100 Xe rapidly processes and prints graphic-rich labels, with or without variable information, all in full color. Totally different product labels can print without pausing, at the speed and quality necessary to match production demands. Printing and processing speed remains high whether variable label content is directly linked from databases or simply requires serialization, as in the case of date codes and barcodes. The QLS-4100 Xe is powered by a high-end embedded microcontroller that combines multiple processing units to speed communications and printing.
In addition to ample on-board storage for fonts and images, the new printer also provides expanded space to store additional images and fonts on removable memory cards. The QLS-4100 Xe printer extends communication options, allowing users of its native label creation software package, Color QuickLabel 99 Proâ„¢, to address networked printers via Ethernet.
The QLS-4100 Xe shares the 300 dpi print resolution of its predecessor, as well as the ability to print directly onto labels, tags, and other flexible packaging such as Tyvek® and metallized PET pouches in four spot or CMYK process colors at a speed of 7 inches per second. Designed for high-volume industrial production environments, the QLS-4100 Xe's all-metal construction incorporates a 1/2" thick rigid backbone plate for precise control and consistent performance, and highest quality bearings and components. The printer is easy to operate with streamlined print station configuration, smart label sensor, and smooth, quiet operation. Production accessories include a label roll rewinder to prepare labels for automatic application, and a unit to cut and stack individual labels or tags.
In addition to the production efficiency provided by instant color label printing, the QLS-4100 Xe automatically manages its own printing efficiency with a firmware-controlled system that economizes ink-transferring thermal transfer ribbon by selectively using it according to a custom digital map of each label. This technology, called RibbonRation®, is patented by QuickLabel Systems.
The QLS-4100 Xe is a primary component of QuickLabel's complete product line, including the QLS-3000 and QLS-2000 series of multi-color digital label printers, Color QuickLabel 99 Proâ„¢ advanced label design software, thermal transfer printing ribbons, label and tag materials, barcode printers, label applicators, and print-and-apply systems.
