Leica Geosystems Introduces Fifth-Generation Disto Laser Measuring Tools

Leica Geosystems today announced the introduction of the 5th generation DISTO™ handheld laser distance measuring tools for the North American market.

The new 5th generation DISTO products provide a powerful and handy measuring tool for professionals and do-it-yourselfers, offering new features never before available in a handheld laser distance measuring device at a new low price.

The 5th generation DISTO products are available in two models: DISTO Lite5 and DISTO Classic5. All of them offer the ability to measure distances from 0.2 to 200 meters (0.7 - 650 ft.) with an accuracy of 3mm (1/8 in.), using easy point-and-click functions.

DISTO Lite5 is the entry-level 5th generation product. The compact lightweight unit has been designed with an ergonomic keypad and large clear backlit display, making it very easy to learn and use. The unit includes a built-in leveling bubble and alignment aid to mark measured points.

DISTO Classic5 is the performance model of the 5th generation line. It includes a built-in 2x telescopic viewer for easier spotting when taking long-distance measurements and a built-in leveling bubble for more precise horizontal measurements. The DISTO Classic5 has integrated calculator and indirect height and distance (Pythagoras) measurement functions. It stores the last 15 measured values plus up to 10 additional constants, such as ceiling heights, for faster measurements of areas and volumes. The multifunctional end piece facilitates measurements from flat surfaces and corners.

The 5th generation DISTOs use two AA batteries, and provide up to 10,000 measurements on a single set of batteries.

Retail list prices are $375 USD (Can $575) for the DISTO Lite5 and $495 USD (Can $725) for the DISTO Classic5.

Jack Wolf, vice president, consumer products for the Americas, said: “The 5th generation DISTO products represent an important advance in state-of-the-art technology for handheld laser measuring, resulting from continued research and development efforts and rigorous cost reduction programs.”

For professionals requiring the utmost in accuracy and functionality, Leica Geosystems continues to offer the DISTO Pro4 series with top-of-the-line features such as data storage, RS232 data transfer, alphanumeric keypad, graphics display, specialized PC software and comprehensive trigonometric calculation functions. The DISTO Pro4a provides accuracy levels to 1.5mm (1/16 in.).

The DISTO products are sold through an extensive network of distributors and dealers throughout North America. Buyers can also select, specify and purchase products directly online at www.disto.com.
