Transfer System automates small- to medium-size stamping.

December 19, 2002 - FLEX 3000 permits stampers to automate part transfer to multiple dies within large transfer press. Unit has servo feedback system and is hard-wired with simple electronic connections. With fully programmable transfer path, various part configurations can be run. Operated independent of press actuation, it can be mounted overhead to press uprights for access into diespace, visual inspection, and changeover. Options include automatic finger tooling rail pick-up/engage.

FLEX 3000: Transfer Press Automation for Lighter-Weight Parts

(FENTON, MI) - A leader in providing programmable in-press transfer automation to stamping plants worldwide with its FLEX 5000® system, Atlas Technologies Inc. (Fenton, MI) is introducing the FLEX 3000, engineered to bring the advantages of the larger system to smaller, lighter-weight applications.

Like the FLEX 5000, the FLEX 3000 makes it very cost-effective for stampers to automate part transfer to multiple dies within a large transfer press as opposed to using a multiple-press tandem line with material-handling automation at each press. Given the right press and part configuration, an existing transfer press can be retrofit with a FLEX 3000 in-press transfer system for 10 to 20% of the cost of a new press.

Value-engineered for contract stampers turning out small to medium-sized parts, the FLEX 3000 has a simplified servo feedback system and is hard-wired with straightforward electronic connections. Since the transfer path is fully programmable, a variety of part configurations can be run faster with the servo-driven FLEX 3000, where cam-actuated transfers typically remain set up for the deepest-drawn part.

And unlike part-transfer systems driven by ram motion, the FLEX 3000 is independent of press actuation, so it can be mounted overhead to press uprights for improved access into the diespace, visual inspection, and easy changeover.

Features such as automatic finger tooling rail pick-up/engage (during die change) are available as options on the FLEX 3000.
