Fairchild Adds New Optically Isolated Error Amplifier to Simplify Offline Power Conversion Designs

Single Component Solution Incorporates Optocoupler, Precision Reference, and Error Amplifier with 5,000 VRMS Isolation and VREF Tolerance as Low as 0.5%

San Jose, CA - October 30, 2002 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) today announces the introduction of a new Optically Isolated Error Amplifier. The FOD2741 incorporates an optocoupler, precision reference, and error amplifier into an 8-pin white, dual-inline package, making it the functional equivalent of a Fairchild KA431 shunt voltage regulator and a CNY17F-3 optocoupler in a single, space saving device. The FOD2741 features a high 5,000 VRMS isolation voltage that makes it ideal for offline power conversion applications.

The FOD2741 provides isolated voltage feedback between the secondary and primary sides of power conversion circuits for control and regulation purposes. The FOD2741 may be used in conjunction with a Fairchild Power Switch (FPS) and other Fairchild power management devices to simplify switch mode power supply and dc-dc converter designs. In addition to a 5,000 VRMS isolation voltage, the FOD2741 features a 2.5 VREF with 0.5%, 1% and 2% tolerance options, a current transfer ratio (CTR) of 100% to 200%, and a low temperature coefficient of 50 ppm/°C max. Because the FOD2741 provides a single component solution and offers a choice of reference voltage tolerances, engineers can optimize both space and performance to meet their specific power design requirements.

The FOD2741 has UL, CSA, VDE and BSI safety agency certification, and the 8-pin white, dual-inline package is available in through hole or surface mount lead configurations. Both through hole and surface mount lead configurations are available in 50-unit tube packaging. Surface mount devices are also available in tape and reel packaging with a 1,000-unit quantity on a 13-inch (330mm) diameter reel.

Price: US $0.30 each (1,000 pcs)
