Hand-Sized Electric Power Analyzer from Summit Technology Redefines Standard for Measurement of Power Quantity and Quality

New Hand-sized Unit Leverages The Strength And Reputation Of Popular PowerSight PS3000

Walnut Creek, CA, — October 28, 2002, — Electric power technology professionals needing to analyze the quality of their incoming and internal power now have a powerful, new tool in a small, easy to use package. The newest member of the PowerSight family of power analyzers, the model PS4000 Power Quality Analyzer from Summit Technology, Inc. is the answer for engineers needing in-depth power quality information. This exciting product offers complete transient, swell/sag, harmonic, and demand analysis capabilities for all commercial & industrial power systems.

According to Summit Technology Inc. President Ken Kious, “The new PS4000 is a real powerhouse. The unit offers the power of a computer in the palm of your hand. When combined with our unsurpassed breadth of measurement accessories, it becomes an unbeatable package in terms of capability, value, ease of use, and size.”

The PS4000 performs a wide variety of functions including:

• Measuring and capturing swell, sag, and inrush down to the ˝ cycle

• Determining and holding transient information down to 10 microseconds

• Analyzing harmonic information to the 63rd on every cycle

• Performing power consumption analysis (V, A, W, pf, etc) on every cycle

• Displaying measurements continuously

• Interfacing via a complete keypad to avoid a confusing, menu-based user interface

• Operating 8-10 hours off of rechargeable batteries or forever off of an included wall adapter or off of the power being monitored (with its LDC accessory)

Significantly, the swell, sag, transient, harmonic, and consumption functions are performed simultaneously and for all of the seven voltage and current inputs.

“I have seen a lot of units coming into this space, but this one really impresses me,” says former ElectricNet Product Editor Stephen Heiser. “The PS3000 has always been a tough little device and the new PS4000 offers professionals a great deal of analytical power and speed.”

Accessories allow direct connections to voltages from 1 volt to 15,000 volts and currents from 10 milliamps to 6,000 amps. Use of input ratios also allows connecting to PTs and CTs. The unit works with single-phase to three-phase power, 20-70 Hz, 360-440 Hz, and DC. Small enough to lock in a panel, it can also be mounted in its weather-resistant case for outdoor monitoring. In addition, the new “Connection Check” feature makes it difficult to hook up incorrectly. As a special bonus, none of its accessories require batteries or external power.

The PS4000 displays the same ruggedness and characteristics of its predecessor the PS3000, which has been in use now for eight years on all seven continents. Customer surveys prove that PowerSight analyzers are highly regarded for their ease of use, their ruggedness, and the effectiveness of their technical support. According to Kious, “ It’s been six years since a unit was returned to us for repair due to a fall. To the best of my knowledge, the unit at the South Pole Research Station is still in use.”
