Bar-Code Verifier provides real-time analysis.

November 5, 2002 - On-Line Verifier (OLV) interfaces with 64-bit microprocessor-controlled tag and label printers and provides bar code verification without reductions in print speed. High-speed, moving-beam laser scanner analyzes printed bar codes according to user-selected parameters. If missing or inaccurate bar codes are detected, OLV interrupts print run and automatically alerts operator. Unit can perform both ANSI and traditional measurements.

New High-Speed Verifier Provides Real-Time Bar Code Analysis, Maximizes Printer Throughput in Compliance Labeling Applications

device is intended for apparel, retail, chemical, medical, pharmaceutical, warehousing and automotive uses

A new high-speed bar code verifier that maximizes printer productivity and ensures accuracy in compliance labeling applications is now available from Avery Dennison Printer Systems Americas. The device, called the AVERY DENNISON(tm) On-Line Verifier (OLV), provides real-time bar code verification without unnecessary delays or reductions in print speed. It is intended for apparel, retail, chemical, medical, pharmaceutical and automotive labeling applications. The device is currently listed at $2,995.

The On-Line Verifier interfaces with AVERY DENNISON(tm) 64-bit microprocessor-controlled tag and label printers. The verifier employs a high-speed moving beam laser scanner to analyze printed bar codes according to user-selected quality parameters. If missing or inaccurate bar codes are detected, the OLV interrupts the print run and automatically alerts the operator.

An intelligent interface between the verifier and printer allows users to control the printing process without compromising throughput. “Many bar code verifiers currently on the market introduce a delay after each printed label, effectively reducing print speed by as much as 50 percent,” says Director of Marketing Mark Hansinger. “There’s no delay with the AVERY DENNISON(tm) On-Line Verifier. Bar code verification takes place in real time without degrading print speed in most applications.”

Easy Operator Setup

The On-Line Verifier can perform both ANSI and traditional measurements to analyze bar code quality, and can read complex tickets containing multiple bar codes. The verifier settings can be accessed via the printer’s four-key control panel and two-line, 32-character LED display. Operators program the verifier by selecting bar code quality parameters from a built-in menu using a few keystrokes. Setup can also be done remotely by downloading bar code quality parameters from a PC or laptop.

Although designed to function mainly in integrated mode, the AVERY DENNISON(tm) On-Line Verifier can also be configured to operate as a data capture device. In this mode, the verifier automatically uploads production data to a remote computer while continuing to provide basic pass-fail bar code verification. This allows users to monitor printer performance and to perform historical trending and analysis.

The compact, 2.2-pound device is available as an option with new AVERY DENNISON (tm) 64-bit tag and label printers, or can be retrofitted to 64-bit printers already in operation. The verifier is compatible with the Avery Dennison high-speed cutter/stacker and with other forms-handling accessories.
